All I can say is- WOW! Imagine the message this sends to other gay students and teachers, and would-be gaybashers at this school. In another story I just read today- a school district in suburban Detroit (Farmington Hills) -just (!)- enacted a new Sex Ed policy that permits teachers and councillors to actually answer questions from students related to homosexuality. Of course, they reserve the right to tattle on the kids to their parents- thus encouraging them to remain silent on legitimate issues that they're struggling with, for fear that they'll be outed to their parents. Apparently, homophobia is still alive and well in our supposedly "liberal" public schools- and not just in small towns in the Bible Belt.

Yeah, it's prejudice, pure and simple. It's a shame that schools and other establishments are still doing this kind of thing. Luckily, the school district has agreed to give an apology as well as reissue an uncensored yearbook to any who want one.

Yup, read it yesterday...how ignorant of the school officials!

What the heck? Why was this done only AFTER the year books were published and about to be distributed?
Why was it done at all!?

If I were the students (or their parents if they're still minors) I'd sue the school for prejudice, censorship, sexual orientation discrimination, destruction of private property (since these books are paid for in ADVANCE by the students...the school does not own the books!)...among other things!

That's funny, the kid should slap them upside the head with a lawsuit for all his trouble, along with a formal apology and a reprint of all yearbooks.

I mean I'm pretty sure it's against most school's policies to discriminate for any reason, and those policies apply to adults as much as students.

Poor teachers though, this is going to stain their entire career.

He should imediately contact a good lawyer and sue. Not for the page, but for the way he was singled out, and for the disciminatory message the Super sent to the rest of the student body and faculty. Lawsuit, plain and simple.

Nauseating, but not remotely surprising. This country is becoming the most restricted in terms of personal freedoms, in the west.

It's obvious homophobia and bigotry. Anyone who can make such a decision should not be allowed to be a part of school administration.

That is poo.

Not so high on the list though, so far as "Discriminatory acts against homosexuals" go.

Just remember the gay penguins. That always cheers me up.
