You can get software and cables for data transfer, and this might be worth considering if you have massive amounts to transfer. But generally a USB thumb drive, or a writable CD are easier and more convenient for normal purposes.

I generally use Pen drive (thumb drive) to transfer data - which I feel is the simple and efficient method.
However we can also do the same thing through bluetooth etc. wireless technology which again is a big process when compared to the thumbdrive process

I use an Ethernet crossed cable because both my desktop and laptop have LAN cards. then just transfer all to the shared folder in each.
