According to a special they had on the Science Channel a while ago, rodents would most likely become the next dominant species. Their reasoning for this belief was that order's small size, short breeding cycle, great adaptability and the fact that they represent over 40% of all mammalian species.

There wouldn't be a dominant species, the Earth would simply carry on as it does now, just without the aggro of six billion humans trampling all over it. For example how could Dolphins take control over the Jungle and just what would a polar bear do to rule Asia

Humans are an evolutionary oddity - we are singular in our ability and hunger for new habitats to 'dominate'. It is one of those things that seems to mark us out has different from the rest of creation.

On the other hand, the rest of the animal kingdom seeks out familiar habitats in which to carry on doing what they have always done. Any 'dominating' that might go on in these cases is a by-product of normal behaviour and not a deliberate goal in itself.

Dolphins or Chimpanzees. Both have an ideal Brain to Body ratio.

That is if we don't kill them off first.
