you are not likely to see many reality based answers from the cons to this question.

war supporters, it seems, do not want to either pay for (additional taxes to pay for the war rather than foist the debt on future generations) or fight the war (the draft).

but my my, they sure do talk tough...

I read a few days ago that part of the illegal immigrant bill being considered is to make about 750,000 illegals eligible for military service. If they serve in the US military for 2 years they get citizenship. This would not apply to all illegals, only ones that meet certain qualifications, hence the estimated 750,000 number. It seems this administration desperately needs fresh troops but they know that reinstating the draft would be political suicide.

No, a draft would prove pretty ineffective. A bunch of conscripts who would rather be somewhere else are not what we need. Todays military involves a lot of specialized traininga and highly motivated individuals.

However, I would like to see a system that would allow older former military to serve in non-combat roles to free up soldiers and marines to bolster the actual combat forces. Old men like me can certainly fill out forms, process paperwork , drive cars and trucks etc. Most of the military is involved in support and logistics not combat.

No. There is no need for a draft. Our all-volunteer military is doing a wonderful job.

However, a draft might actually force some liberals to defend their freedoms...

...Or show their true hate for America by fleeing to Canada.

I do not see much effort from Bush in winning the war in iraq. It appears he is more worried about killing muslims than he is about Americans dying needlessly because the politicians are hellbent on fighting half-assed wars.

I do and unless there is a need I don't support re-instituting the draft.

no. they signed up voluntarily to serve this country. we should all be proud of the troops that put themselves in harms way, but a draft should not be enacted
