Mirrors though used as every day objects today have caused fear in humans since they were first developed, some of this related to the fact that ancient humans never created images of people for fear that if something happened to the image it would happen in reality to the person (see: poppets/sympathetic magick), mirrors which gave an identical image were thought to be even more powerful and the breaking of a mirror was said to make a person whose "image had been captured in it" to fall ill or die (thus the superstitions about seven years bad luck - 7 being the number of good luck!)

Another magick /mirror piece of history was the thought that one could see your "true face" or the "face of your soul" in the mirror - which would show the person as they truly were - this was thought to be enough to drive a person insane (most of us dont like to admit our faults let alone look them in the eye)

Mirrors and images of mirrors have been used throughout history in rituals and magick, for healing, scrying, even for cursing.......

I think most of us get a little creeped out looking in a mirror in the dark (anyone who says they dont .....I DARE you tonight to go into your bathroom and with just enough light to see your face stare at your own reflection for at least 5 mins....bet you get spooked too!)

Only once was I freaked out by my own reflection at night. I had been reading some bloody mary stories on the internet. It was halloween and I was in the mood to read them. Long story shory I was washing my hands after using the bathroom. I left the lights off but a little bit if light came into the curtains. I didn't want to wake up my roommate. When I looked up from my hand washing the reflection made me gasp. It wasn't really scary but u know I had been reading scary stories. So that is the only time a mirror has scared me. As for u I couldn't say try posting this on the pshcologist section. As for crazy it's a meaningless word.

No you're not crazy. I get freaked out especially at night like if I pass a mirror I think I see something and I get scared stiff and am afraid to look around. It's stupid but I guess I'm a little paranoid at times.

Yes! All the time! I hate mirrors in the dark or even when it's semi light. At school in elementry the bloody Mary story was the thing and everyone was obsessed. Once when me and my friends heard these girls doing it we snuck to the light switch and quickly turned out the lights and the girls started screaming. It was so funny. We weren't afraid of bloody mary but my other friend was terrified and she claimed she saw Bloody Mary everytime she looked in the mirror. That night had to take a shower and my bathroom wall is like all mirrors so I can't avoid looking in them. My friend got me so paranoid I was too afraid to. Aha.

Only at night. Especially since it's summer now and I go to bed late and I'm usually brushing my teeth at like 11:55 or whatever and then i'm looking in the mirror and then the clock strikes 12 and I get scared that Bloody Mary will pop out of the mirror and kill me! You are not crazy, btw. It's normal for people(especially girls)to be scared of mirros because of the Bloody Mary story.

You are not crazy. I have done that before also. Some people even use mirrors as a form of scrying. Seeing into the future. Finding answers to questions. There is also a lot of history and folklore attatched to mirrors.

You'd be on the set of coronation highway! In concept i assume if no longer something ever happend, there could have been no huge Bang which might mean that situations for all times does not have been created!! In physics isn't there a regulation that states each action HAS AN equivalent AND OPPOSITTE reaction?? for this reason if there became into no preliminary action, evoloution does not exist.... Cool! Existential questions:)

I always get creeped out by mirrors in the dark. I've gotten better, but I used to have to put sheets over them at night.

Without really knowing why, I have always covered the mirrors in my bedroom at night. Can't sleep when the mirror isn't covered. I uncover it during the day.

No i feel this way to it's weird and unexplainable but it's some wierd sense that you get when you look in the mirror too long, very creepy but i usually try to ignore it.
