I want to buy an apple laptop, probably a G4, but I need to know a few things first. I am looking on ebay and some of the descriptions say memory will be wiped clean. Does this mean that it won't come with some of the programs like GarageBand and iMovie? Also, if I'm going on a trip how can I access the internet with a wireless laptop? How can I access the internet wirelessly period with this notebook? Please share any other information you have about these laptops too. Thanks in advance for any help!!

To connect to a wireless spot, you have to be within range of the transmitter. Most wireless transmitters have a range of around 100-200 feet. Large places like airports have boosters or repeaters to allow coverage over larger areas.

Be VERY wary of buying a computer on eBay. There's some major computer scams going on now with them. You might not get what you think you're getting, and the seller is long gone.

If the seller is not willing to provide the installation discs that came with the laptop, chances are it's stolen.

With regards to the software, GarageBand and iMovie are part of the iLife suite, which comes free with any new Mac. If the seller gives you the original software install discs, you can do a fresh install of the programs. If you don't get them with the computer, you can probably get the discs cheap from eBay separately.

As far as the wireless goes, check to see if the computer has AirPort- that's Apple's brand of wifi card. Again, if the computer doesn't come with one, and it probably will, you can still get a card off eBay. Just make sure it's the AirPort "Extreme" card- that's the faster version.

As the previous owner of a Powerbook G4, I can say that it is a very good computer- I had the 1.5 GHz model. I now have a second-generation MacBook Pro, which is great for its ability to reboot in Windows when necessary.

Get a domicile windows 7 notebook, they value as much as 3 circumstances under Apple laptops with comparable hardware, an outstanding working equipment and lots greater utility compatibility. For those consumer-friendly standards, any mid-ranged notebook may well be superb, there is not any ought to splash out on an extremely high priced notebook. As for virus secure practices, in basic terms get Avast loose antivirus and it will do you sturdy continuously. everyday virus database updates... and this is loose. heavily, basically idiots surely get viruses at present, so there is not any ought to fret approximately that element of issues too lots. Oh, and opposite to huge-unfold theory, Macs at the instant are not proof against hackers and viruses. additionally, a prior answer stated something approximately Apple computers lasting longer. this would nicely be a fantasy.
