as long as you take the bottle away as soon as he falls asleep it should be OK the bottle rot is from people leaving the bottle the whole time they are sleeping. at 8 months he still needs that much formula. that is 8 ounces of nourishment. soon you can introduce a sippy cup and give him that at bedtime. but for right now let him sleep. he is still only a baby.

I wouldn't worry just yet. Will he take water in his bottle instead of formula? If you can get him to drink water instead of formula, you will eliminated the bottle-rot threat... and the actually sucking shouldnt cause a problem for a few years at least.
My son still nurses to sleep at 17 months, hes just not mature enough to put himself to sleep... I dont see how this is any different.

After the baby is full trade it for a soft plush toy. Pacifiers have been know (but not as much) so have the same effect on teeth. The toy is for him to cuddle/play with because after the baby eats that's what he will do with the bottle. If something to chew/suck on is still needed give him a clean and dry washcloth. It sounds horribly low-tech but it works well.
Good luck

Yes you should be worried. I would just make sure he is dry and full before laying him down. I would start off rocking him to sleep or put him in the crib and pat him on his back until he falls asleep. Soft music is always soothing to babies.

The bottle wont mess up his teeth, if he sucks his thumb then that will mess up his front teeth. Keep tryin with the pacifier. I had to keep doing that to my son and now he loves his pacifier. Of course he sleeps with is milk, then i pop in the pacifier when hes done.
