Do you think the Notorious B.I.G. is overrated? Why or Why not?

Alot of people (not including me) have biggie listed as #2 greatest rapper of all time, or even #1.

just wanted to clear this....im not saying he is overrated, but if i were making a list of the greatest rappers, he wouldn't hold the 1 or 2 spot like many say.

If we're basing it on his musical catalog, then yes. He only released two albums (even if one was a double) and he only had a handful of singles.

If we're talking about technical ability, then BIG isn't that overrated at all. He had better breath control than a lot of MC's today. His wordplay is top notch. And he's been bitten more times than a vampire buffet (bad I know), but really check how many lines Jay-Z alone has lifted. B.I.G. was definitely a solid MC, even if he glorified his lifestyle and rise to the top.

And on the flipside of the same coin (sorry if this is question jacking), but does anyone think that Pac maybe overrated?

if i was making that list, i wouldnt be able to. I would have to leave that up to somebody in the game with no bias who has been and rapper. But as for BI spot, he is definetly in the top 3 without a doubt.
yes he went before his time(rip) but he had an impact like no other. Listen to rap after his death and your hear all these new dudes biting his lines. PLus life after death went diamond, the populus recognize. only 5 rap album has gone diamond,. Not even jay z went diamond, but thats my dude tho. lol
But what im tryig to get to is the numbers talk for themselve.
Plus dude had the crazy flows with the ill melodies. untouchable.

HELL TO THE NAWH!!
NIGGGAS STILL BITING HIS STYLE TODAY!!
############################

Have u ever seen him LIVE?? Freestyle??? He started the underground movement then hitting up mainstream!! He was out on the streets in BK -- making records was not why he did what he did -- he had the gift of gab!!

All yall youngins who don't know who or what Big was about need to do some homework -- comparing theses crackerjack rappers to Big is NO CONTEST!! He was cut down in his prime!! Most of his underground sh*t wasn't on his records, so don't just go by the two albums he put out.

RIP BIGGIE!!

Hell naw, he only released two albums before he was murdered and had that much of an impact on the genre. He was one of the best freestylers ever and his lyrics were up there with poets like Tupac. He was a little more silly with his songs, but that gave him personality. Overrated... far from it, he had a sick flow.

When someone dies or is killed, they get a lot of notoriety from it. It doesn't necessarily mean they were great at what they did, but they get more publicity. What exactly did Biggie do that was so great aside from being murdered do to his stupid gang affiliations? Was he an innovator? Did he go platinum? Did he invent a new style or leave a lasting impression on the genre of rap? Answers: nothing, no, no, no. He was just one of a million rappers who kept poor company. Unfortunately, he lost his life. That does not make him an icon. It makes him a dead gangster. Rest in peace.

I think Notorious B.I.G. is overrated for his body of work. He doesn't really have that much material out there and there's no telling how good he could of been.

No Biggie isn't overrated. I think Tupac was overrated, because he wouldn't have been anything hadn't it been for Digital Underground. If you look at an early freestyle of Biggie you'll see his lyrical superiority to Tupac. Tupac was a great lyricist too, but he wasn't in Biggie's league in my opinion.

well in my opinion biggie was kind of whack and his first album was the only album that actually had some good songs on it but all is other music sucked and hell yeah biggie was way overratted during his prime, but he's not the greatest that people claim that he is, tupac was the greatest of all time hands down
