I have a Poulan "WildThing" chainsaw and it has an 18 inch bar. Do I just have to buy an 18 inch chain to fit it, or is there something else I need to look into. My manual does not say anything1

Best bet is to take it to a dealer or repair shop. They will be able to tell you the proper size to get.

You will need an 18 inch chain but you can check the boxes on the chains at a local store to see what chains will fit on it. I know that we used to use Stihl chains on our craftsmen saws and that stihl was making chains that would fit many saws. Even if the chain is a little bit big (but still an 18 in chain) you can adjust the bar outward and keep the bar properly adjusted to make it work right.

Sometimes getting the new chain out of the box and untangled is the worst part of it. The chain will have some sharp teeth, be greasy and be tangled up some.

Read the package the chain comes in and make sure it is for your saw. I went through this before. Had a 16" and it needed a chain for the specific namebrand saw.

Look at the chain that is on it now.
(Obviously make sure it cannot start up on you)
There should be some numbers imprinted in the side of the chain... that will give you the size you need, and model #.

electric powered chain saws will artwork on wood or branches below approximately six inches yet I even have in no way seen one tat might cut back heavy stumps or trunks of trees that are a foot or so in diameter.

measure the length of the chain saw bar...or remove the chain and take with you to measure when you get a new one...help is readily available by any store.
