Just a question. It'd be nice to think they did.

The people of the ancient world, such as the Egyptians, built their entire lives around mythical creatures. Those that are known as their gods were humans with animal heads. I wonder if people didn't make believable looking masks to put the fear into the town folk?

The people from long ago who first drew and wrote of mythical creatures (or what WE think of as mythical creatures) were a simple type. Some of the creatures were created to explain things- in American Indian legends there are the stories of the Water Panther, a great beast that would travel under a canoe and flip it with its great tail. Nowadays? We would call it a strong current. Or maybe call it a Loch Ness monster of sorts. Other creatures must have been based on something someone had seen. Some things could have been an exaggeration; a guy sees this huge lizard in the forest and tells a friend. The friend tells HIS friend that Guy 1 saw something bigger and so on, until you have this colossal evil beast- DRAGON! But what of the stories of people running from dragons? A flying lizard, possibly, like one of you said.

So to make an already long story slightly shorter: it's my own opinion that some mythical creatures had to have existed or there wouldn't be so many stories about them. Not all of these creatures were evil, not all of them were to scare little kids. I mean, come on, where did the idea for a unicorn come from? Some one had to have SEEN one of them. But okay, I'll stop now. I've already said enough.

There are several creatures at one time that translated without certain cultures not even meeting one another. Perfect example is the Dragon. Every culture that existed on earth had some sort of shape of a dragon as a symbol of their strength, unity or wisdom. Yet none of these cultures not even met !!! There are only 2 possible answers that can exist. PERIOD !!!

1. Dragons did exist !!
2. There were still a few remnants dinosaurs (possibly dinosaurs that evolved to stay throughout man). These ancient civilizations looked up to these beasts as dragons !! It is a known fact that certain hominid species overlapped by 10,000 years or so so. Like the Neanderthal and Homo sapien species which is present man.

These are the only 2 logical explanations, considering none of these ancient civilizations never met !!! China having the same symbol as the Aztecs at the same time clear on opposite sides of the world !!!!!! Think about it.

These supposedly "mythical" creatures used to and still do exist. All it takes is an open-mind and a clear enough mind to actually notice the things around you. It is true that many of the magickal beings and creatures had to escape to the astral realm in order to get away from the horror and destruction caused by humans. They aren't stuck on the astral realm though, and many visit the physical plains often. Treat them well, and they'll treat you the same way. Open your eyes and pay attention. You'll find them. ; )

Just imagine if people thought dinosaurs were not real because the only evidence was word of mouth? Because people do not believe in something it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. Yet, it is sometimes good that you not lend too much credibility to such things if positive conclusions allude to our disadvantage.

For example, Freddy Krueger was weak to people that did not believe in him so to destroy him, one had to denounce and lend no credence to his existence.

Some mythical creatures were good, evil or somewhat neutral only out for personal gain. Genesis Chapter 6 of the Bible speaks of giants. Then again in Numbers 13:32 - 13:33, more giants are spoken of and there is implicit reference of even other things existing that even ate up those giants that inhabitted that land as if even the giants were not at the top of the food chain. WOW!!

That's in the Bible. Check it out.

I hope this helps.

Peace.

I believe that a creature that existed, and later became extinct, and eventually mythical, was the Unicorn..
I really believe that, and they had a special on TV, tryig to find this creature, or its existance. They compared it to other creatures, but no definite answer, on its existance.
Until its existance can be proven, it will remain mythical, much like the Lochness monster, or dragons.TY

I think they did. Maybe not all of them but the stories have to have some base of truth. In the bible it mentions some mythical creatures.

I think whether or not they existed isnt as important as believing that they did. Having a little imagination and faith in something is good for you.

Saw a book out a while ago - think it was right, makes sense. Mythical creatures may have been based on fossils that were found of extinct creatures like dinosaurs.

It will all depend on what you consider to be them existing.

There are a lot of people that believe that any legend or myth has some basis in fact. This would imply that in one way or another all legends and myths where inspired by something real and tangible.

As such, it is entirely possible that the creatures that lead to the legends existed at one point, but if they existed in the form described in the legends is something that is going to require some from of proof.

I believe that they did. Almost anything that was a myth or legend has its' beginnings as a truth. Over time elements were either added or subtracted. Some were named other creatures as science advanced.
Most dragon drawings that I've seen seem to based on alligators or crocodiles.

A point to remember is no one knows what the depths of our oceans hold; and new things are discovered almost every day by archeologist's.
