Pronunciation of words often comes from their derivative. However sometimes this does not work. For example compare the pronunciation of nature as opposed to natural. Mature and maturity are an example of a pure derivative. The sound is just one of the vagaries of the English language.

..this is why english is the hardest language for people to learn....some many words spelled similar but don't sound the same, or sound the same and are spelled differently...go figure....

its just one of those things where its wierd with the english vocabulary, or it could be where it is just lacking in sense
