My husband is going to be deployed in the near future. I am working now. I have an opportunity to do an internship while he is gone in a field that I am very interested in. Internship = free, so my income will be nil. His military pay is plenty to support us.

Do you think it is selfish of me to do the internship while he is deployed? Honestly my job now bores me to tears and this internship would probably make the time go faster.

Thanks in advance!

I think what you are planning to do will be a big accomplishment for you and at the same time it will give you something to do when your husband takes off for Iraq. Always remember you need to think of you so that way it will give you something to be proud of in the near future. When my husband goes 6 months per year, I kept my self busy with my own career, and at the same time it gave me privilege to have my own identity. Being married to a military man, people intend to know us as our husband name not ours.
So your plan for future will be the right move that you can ever do for self not to become selfish.....always remember, the hardest job in military are being the wife................best wishes to you.

I would say yes. I am a deployed soldier too and my wife works as well. It is a good idea to work while your husband is away because you will probably go insane from the worriness and you need to keep yourself busy. But I would suggest getting a job that you like that makes money. That way you can save your money and with all the extra money that you can do some great things when he gets back. Like a new house or a new car or something like that. And it will be a big stress reliever when you have extra money in the back.

Follow your dreams. It sounds like taking the internship will give you something to focus on while he's gone. I don't think its selfish at all to go after what you want. If your husband agrees that it's a good idea you should go for it! Good luck and thank you both for your service to our country!

I think his deployment would be the perfect time for your internship. This way when he comes home, you'll be home too.

Talk to your husband and make sure he's okay with this (since it will only be his income) and then go for it!

Can you see the internship as an investment in your future?
If this can honestly improve your life together it not that selfish.
Anything you do in regards to your career is selfish by definition. because your career is your's alone.

If your husband is okay with it then I would say go for it!!

Everyone should follow their dreams and pursue their passion in life.

You are in a unique position that you will be extremely busy with your new job (pay or no) and your husband will not be there so you will have nothing to feel guilty about.

Talk to him about it. I don't think its selfish at all though, because you are looking long term. It will better you both in the future. Besides, its not like you aren't already going to both be apart. This will give you something to keep your mind off the situation at hand. Tell our husband thanks for everything!

I think it sounds good, and can give you a good opportunity for another carreer but i would honestly sit with your husband and discuss this with him, i mean it is your lives, and at the end its the two of you, i think that you two have to decide as a family what is best.

good luck

If this internship leads to bigger and better things then do it. It isn't selfish at all. He needs to be ok with it, of course.

It seems to me that this is a great opportunity for you. It will also keep you busy learning and if I was he I would hope it would keep you from straying. Good luck.
