I have a laptop with one DVD/CD drive and a desktop with two of those, of which all three have disappeared from My Computer folder. The drives still work, because they open and close, but for whatever reason, I cannot use them. Please help.

need to reinstall drivers.use ur recovery disc or download the driver from the manufacturer's web site.good luck.

i dont know of any or ever heard of one doing that. ost likely their is some thing wrong with you driver cd rom or motherboard. first down load a new driver for it. if that doesn't work take it to a repair shop. on last noter it could even bee windows

It could be a virus, but I've never heard of one doing something like that. Did you try downloading drivers?

ok then..remove the cable connecting ur pc's motherboard to ur cd player(ide cable)..and then reconnect it..even remove power cable and reconnect it...then switch on ur computer and then press del or esc to get bios setup and in that search for 'default bios setup' and then enter and go to save bios setup and then restart up pc...thiz will do..

the drive is bad. need to buy a new 1...
