Well, first of all you need to not expose your newborn to ANY unnecessary outside germs for as long as you can. That is why many day cares will not accept a baby that is less that 6-8 weeks old. Getting the baby's shots will not protect him from getting a cold. In fact for a few days after the shots he may be more sueptable to getting it. I would err on the safe side here...taking him to the grocery store is one thing...having a one year old all over the house with slobber, snot, etc touching everything isn't a good idea.

Infants that young are at risk for getting any type of cold/virus. So, if you can handle not going to see your friend till he has his shots just to be on the safe side... Also, the day of the appt. about a 1/2 hour BEFORE the docs. appt give your son a small dose about 1/2 the reg. dose of baby tylenol for his shots appt. he won't be as uncomfortable after the shots.. Since he may run a bit of a fever.. Also, in between doses give him a cool bath if he has fever symptoms... I have 2 boys and the doctor recommended this procedure before both my childrens shot appts.... I also have Red Cross cert. medicine assistance/training.... Good luck

None of the immunizations your son is gonna get soon, will help against a cold. I would however, when you meet your friend, bring some antibacterial items(cleaner and wipes), and politely ask them to clean their hands before they handle the baby, and unless they are just nasty people, I think your baby will be just fine. Keep an eye on the toddler though, he may be the one to wipe his nose, and then try to touch the baby.

I think it would be ok since it has been over a week since he was sick, but to be on the safe side, I wouldn't let the other kid get too close to your son or let him play with any teething rings, etc. Or, for your own peace of mind, just cancel and reschedule for next week.

If he is completely over it I may let them be around the baby. I just would not let him in the babies face. A lot of colds can really be RSV in babies. My son actually has it right now. It is a respiratory virus which is very dangerous in babies. This is up to you though... GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATS ON THE NEW BABY!

I would put the visit off for just a little while. Not necessarily from everyone, but definitely from someone who is just getting over being sick. If you feel that you are being over-cautious, remember the old adage "better safe than sorry". Your child's health is important, and while i am not saying to put him in a bubble, it is okay to be protective of him until his immune system is a little bit better developed.

OK if its going to cause your baby to be sick then forget about it
there's nothing worse then watching a baby get sick
fever's cause a huge threat for children
my lil brother was 2-3 and he had a fever and we took him to the doctor and while waiting in the waiting room he stopped breathing and died ... The doctor revied him but he has had disability problems every since
please take precaution with your child

that is probably a good idea considering that almost all babys are prone to getting sick very easily and its probably not a good idea to have him around pets till about 4 months because the bigger the animal the more it will frighten him.

Your kid can get the same cold going to the grocery store! Quit being silly and overprotective! The shots don't prevent colds anyway do they?
