There is a short story titled Up In Michigan by Enest Hemingway. I believe he has other short stories set in Michigan. He did a lot of his writing in Michigan as well.

"Anatomy of a Murder" - set in the Upper Peninsula... they made a movie out of it in the late 1950's, I believe, starring Jimmy Stewart as the lawyer. Can't remember the author's name, tho...Google [also check the IMDB for cast list, plot summary, and original author's name]. Good summer read, lots of plot & good characters, plus a boffo surprise ending.
