The Moon (to react to) in Scorpio (Intense and Secretive)
You react to events in your life by concealing your intense emotions from others. Emotional reactions (water) may therefore simmer below the surface (secretive), giving a possible sudden outburst, and surprising others. You may tend to bear grudges (fixed), which you may bear for a long time in secret. You may be driven by emotional feelings and viewpoints (passive) from the past experience (or early childhood) (Moon).

My moon is in Scorpio, and when I found that out, it helped to explain me to me.
With sun in Aquarius, I didn't fit the 'aloof' thing, since I tend to feel things intensely. In fact, I can be quite passionate about what I care about.
Also, like several others said, I felt I for a long time that I had to hide those intense emotions. But then, if you live in a culture that doesn't know what to do with someone expressing such intense emotions, that would be another reason to want to hide.
My son also has moon in Scorpio, sun on Cancer/Leo cusp, and he could out due me in the intensity area.
I didn't know that moon in Scorpio indicates trouble with the mother--I certainly have that in spades.
With sun in Virgo, you could have a bit of a contradiction, like I have. I'm not sure tho.

yeah milly summed it up nice, and I have a brother who sounds has a similar situation to bartacules.
The attributes of your sun sign will be seen by those around you, but the attributes of the moon sign will be felt within you. Your moon sign is the internal you affecting the way that you feel the way you react and even your instinctive behaviors. These all become recognized as your emotional life. Your moon sign helps to define how you will relate to yourself and your emotional needs. Some moon signs may be so strongly felt that they may even overshadow the traits of the sun sign
People with their moon sign in Scorpio may have a reputation for being manipulative. Extreme feelings of passions on the inside with a controlled demeanor on the outside. Others are drawn to your mystique and secretive nature. You are attuned to others emotions, but at the same time may seek to control them. You may secretly fear being vulnerable. Learn to let others care for you, at least once in a while.
Positive traits that people with Scorpio moon posses are:
Sensual, intuitive, researcher, alluring (especially w/opposite sex), and strong memory
Negative traits that a person with Scorpio moon may have are:
Domineering, nosey, overly secretive, compulsions, and slow to forgive others
Trust me…my brother and a girl that I was attracted to both had moon in Scorpio, and people naturally come to them, the opposite sex are naturally drawn to your personality. Pretty good moon sign to have. Hope u find something. L8R

Moon in Scorpio
While others may find security and comfort in material things, Moon in Scorpio people seek out emotional intensity. No matter what, there is something very intense about Lunar Scorpios. They are diggers when it comes to the world of emotion--they can see beyond facades and cut right to the core of a person. This ability to "see" what isn't obvious to the rest of the world can be intimidating to others or wildly attractive, depending on the audience.
Their deep-seated need for transformation and rebirth can manifest itself in the lives of Lunar Scorpios in different ways. Most have powerful, emotionally intense lives. Some feel like it is beyond their control -- these natives seem to attract emotional upheaval, and their lives appear to consist of plenty of dramatic ups and downs. However, when accepted as an emotional need, rebirth and change doesn't need to be so dramatic and overwhelming. In some way or the other, Moon in Scorpio natives seek out intense experiences. If their lives are regular in any way, there can be an unconscious need to test their own strength and stir up emotional excitement. Self-awareness and acceptance is probably the best way to handle this deep need for emotional drama.
Doing things halfway or having meaningless relationships simply doesn't fulfill them. Lunar Scorpios want all or nothing. Moon in Scorpio people often have a strong fear of betrayal. They seek out commitment, and feel the need for a partner to give up something for them. Some will put the people they love through a series of tests, and these are not always conscious. Their apparent suspicion can be trying for the people who love them. However, once committed, Moon in Scorpio people can be the most loyal and protective partners around. Even the shy ones have enormous presence. Their lives are emotion-driven, yet many Moon in Scorpio natives spend a lot of time controlling and mastering their emotions. Their intuition is enormous, although it is sometimes self-serving.
Moon in Scorpio people radiate strength. Even in the absence of experience, they seem to "just know" things. It would be difficult to shock or scare away Lunar Scorpios in the face of emotional honesty and power. Some people instinctively want to lean on them, and other less brave folk run a little scared. Lunar Scorpios have exceptional "radar" that allows them to size up a situation--and a person--quickly and expertly. This ability to understand human motivation and nature can be too close for comfort for some, and enormously comforting for others. Many Lunar Scorpios are intelligent and astute. Those that use their enormous powers for intimacy and honesty are the happiest, and they make the most interesting and rewarding friends and lovers.
Short description:
Courageous, brave, independent, not a fearful nature. The type of man who is attracted to sensual erotic women.
Weaknesses: excesses of pleasures of the flesh, sensual delights and sensuality. Difficulty letting go.

I read somewhere that "moon in Scorpio" were hurt by their mothers in some way in their childhood, so they hate women when they grow up, and can't trust them. I'm not 100% sure if that's completely accurate though.
