If they did they'd probably fight more dirty. One of the porters I used to know at the Chicago stadium said if he was ever in a fight down on the ice, he'd kick with his skates into someone's @ss. Is that why they don't play hockey? I wonder why.. because otherwise they are so athletic...

A mullet? Actually, I wear my hair long all over, and tie it in back in a pony tail, because I've had too many bad haircuts. Once upon a time the Mullet was high fashion, and some hairdressers actually knew how to do it right. Rare.
I call the sport Ice Hockey because it is played on the ice... Field Hockey is played on a field.

They don't like the cold, they are afraid of white guys with sticks, the NHL won't put up with the trash talk and the drug problems, and they aren't that tough when someone can hit them without 400 pounds of padding and equipment.

I'll start off by saying I am bi-racial, so if my answer offends anyone remember that.

Skydog70- Your question is a good question, but you shouldn't have elaborated your opinion because it's pretty ignorant.
There's plenty of white people, asian people, mexican people, whatever people that fight "dirty' and have no class. (Such as you for example)

John Disque- I am not being biased (because your my husband) , but you do have the best answer on here. It's true it goes back to blacks are originally from a very hot climate. It's simply in their blood to be warm.

It's my belief that some people evolve quicker than others, no matter what race, and I think that the blacks in hockey have simply evolved quicker than others. Of course that's not to say that others genes haven't evovled, some may just not like hockey.

Stereotyping is a big thing as well. Not only from other races, but within the black community. There's ignorance everywhere and I'm sure there's some blacks who would love to play hockey, but will be looked down on by their ignorant "friends"
An example would be Oprah. She is a very well respected woman. Yet many blacks consider her a "cop-out white girl" And many whites sub-consciously view her as white.

(I could go on about that topic all day, but I'll let you figure out the association)

If you have half a brain and can think for yourself all this will make sense.

ryan f - Do you sit around and watch black guys practice all day or something? How are you so sure that "they're not good with a puck?"

timo_10143- Not all blacks are poor. Some of them are very well off. There are plenty of white people in the projects too.

hemihead_38- Do you even watch hockey? do you know how much trash talk goes on in hockey every game? There are drug problems in every race. Some of them are white hockey players. There are pu...ssies in every race as well. (I think you might be one of them)

Some of you people are so ridiculous. Deal with the truth.

Just think a little deeper.
It boils down to evolution, genetics, background, heritage, stereotyping & ignorance.

it's a good thing that you're not stereotyping or anything! whether unintentioned or not.

see, hockey has this thing called a "code", and "class". one example is when players shake hands after a playoff round. that's why players don't use skates to hurt their opponent. fighting is not about hurting the opponent. it's more of showing dominance and energizing the crowd. if they really wanted to hurt their opponent, they wouldn't stop there, w/ just skates. besides, the refs keep it from becoming permanently injuring (or they're supposed to at least).

some "blacks" do "play" hockey. there's quite a few of them. why are you single-ing them out? i've heard a rumor that Canadians are tough. and Americans too.

and being "athletic" has very little to do w/ it. or the color of the skin.

might wanna rephrase your question b4 you offend a lot of people unintentionally. shoot, it has nothing to do w/ offending people. who cares. but it has everything to do w/ a question making sense and having validity.

try not to generalize too much

if i was Mike Grier, i'd be pretty pissed right now, cuz you're inferring that i can't bring much to a fight. and the smart fans know that is far from the truth.

oh ... one more thing, you're porter friend doesn't speak for and represent the whole black community, let alone the "what if i was a black hockey player" community. that's making an awfully big assumption.

because "George Bush dosn't care about black people." Sorry, just had to say it... lol...

I think the real reason is the same as why they dont play baseball too often. The sport they can identify with more playing in their neighborhoods and idol wise is basketball and football. you dont see too many hockey rinks in the south side of Chicago next to the projects- you do see a grip of basketball hoops though... also, compared to NFL and NBA, players salaries are a lot lower in the NHL. So if the goal is to make good money, they have a better shot in making it in the USA dominated field of NFL and basketball (even though forgein guys are coming like crazy) rather than the world wide competition of the NHL, etc, etc... should I keep going? Hope I could add a little something to this topic for ya!

Do you have any idea how much hockey equipment and ice time cost? Let alone that generally black people do not like the cold. Self explanitory.

Why don't more white people play ping pong?

2014-02-16 06:13:34 · answer #7 · answered by AMPM 2 · 0 0

blacks are not too big on hockey because

the constant cold, when traditionally most blacks prefer warm weather

the price of hockey is expensive, especially for youths, and there arent too many blacks who can afford to play

the seasonal conflict. most blacks take an interest in basketball, which seasonally conflicts with hockey

this may sound prejudice but it is the truth

I'm not even going to dignify this "question" with a response, except that the NHL did draft two black guys.

Why don't more white people play basketball?

it's socio-economic issues. that means this:

hockey is very expensive to play

there are very few black role models playing it

it has nothing at all to do with the cold. i promise you that when youre on the ice, you are hot, not cold.
