I have a 1999 Ford Ranger P/U with a 3.0 liter V6. It is a "flex fuel" engine that can use E-85 ethanol fuel. The manual is confusing whether I can just use E-85 anytime after using regular gasoline or is there something that must be done before? To my knowledge, there is no E-85 sold in my area but I was just curious if I could use it if the possibility arose. Thanks

You can simply switch to E85 at any time you want. There are sensors on your engine that will automatically detect when you have switched and adjust the timing automatically.

There are only about 1% of gas stations that carry E85 (CNN this morning).

On top of the most of them are in corn growing state (like Iowa).

On top of that CORN E85 is actually few pennies higher than gasoline.

And YES - you can use E85 any time in any combination with gasoline (E85 means 85% ethanol). The car can sense the percentage and make adjustments on the fly.

But why bother.

normal gas already contains a small % of ethanol as it is...so really e85 is just normal gas with more ethanol than usual...
