One qualifier to Barry's post, drop the zero of the area code or mobile phone number. The Area code for NSW including Sydney is 02 then there will be an 8 digit number. To call from the USA ring 011-61-2-XXXXXXXX where the XXXetc represents the number. If you are calling a mobile phone they have the format 04XX XXXXXX. Drop the zero and call 011-61-4XX XXXXXX.

I'm sure you have calling cards in America-they are from different companies that provide very low rates for international calls.I personally have 1 called 'Daybreak' but here are many to choose from,i can make a call to anywhere in the world but the cost of the call is amounted by the minute & it depends on where you are calling. This is why the cards are all different as they have a deal for a specific country.I personally use mine to call Canada & i call from a mobile to moblie & i am on the phone for no less than 30minutes at a time. This only costs me about $1.20 & this particular card has an expiry time frame of 6months but they all differ, they are purchased from Newsagency,Supermarkets & Post Offices to name a few.It is worth the value of purchasing these cards & they come in amounts of $10, $20,$30,$40 & $50 lots.

activate your phone's roaming ability and dial the country code which is 61 followed by the number of the person you'll be calling
