Took me a few weeks to get off my high horse and focus. Once I did....... god, I crumbled realizing what was gone. I think we all eventually realize what we lost. It just takes some people longer to figure it out than others. But its because our lives spin at different speeds with differing needs and various aspects that keep us from having to deal with reality at all times. It's when our world stops and lets us take a breath that we often look around and say....... Whoa!! What happened?
Where did he go? Why did that happen? How did it all go wrong?

Once I let myself think about it........ BOOM...... it was like hitting a wall. The realization can be extreme. And it can be painful. We can only hope that all those involved see it at the same time. But then again....... that's not reality either. *sigh*

They may never realize it during the losing process - but once it is a done deal, gone for good, out of there, that is when it slaps that person in the face ... "I ruined a good thing" and it wiggles on their face!

I think it depends on the person how deep one has to go to reach that epiphany.

Probably every day. People take life for granted every day, and they don't stop to think about how lucky they are, that they aren't starving in some third world county, but are happy, have a family, are well fed, and are so lucky that they have a computer to read this question on. You can't get a day back to relive. Live every moment to its fullest.

when they sit back and evaluate their life without that thing/person in it..... I know my husband doesn't realize just what he has and unfortunately, probably won't realize it until after I leave. And even if he does realize it before I leave, it is still too late as my heart is already with someone else......

*hugs*

I think the majority of people in this world truly do NOT appreciate what they have.

That said, may be half of them do really feel bad when they reflect upon what they have lost. Bad, not because they should feel bad. Bad because they truly are kicking themselves over losing something so good.

The other half, well... they just don't get it, they never will. They are too self absorbed to get it.

Quite a bit. It's called taking things for granted. And the pain of that loss never goes away.

I think people realize it pretty often, when they start to miss it. That is, if it was actually important to begin with.

Only when something they really care about goes like a death of someone you know. its a rare thing i love the saying that what you never had you never miss, when people moan about how they havnt got something.
