I have had great luck with a product called Resolve. It comes in a spray or a powder, available at most grocery stores- has never failed me.

I've used All Free and Clear... and Shout mixed together and let it sit for a few minutes... I also recommend getting some microfiber clothes at walmart for $4 a 12pk... They are really useful and reuseable... Just don't put them in the dryer with dryer sheets or wash with fabric softner...
I also like to use cheap shaving cream/not gel and a soft bristle toothbrush... Just check the area for colorfastness...
If the cat is knocking stuff over, maybe it's time to kitty proof the place and remove the items or secure the items being knocked over, that will save time/money/stains to carpet...
Good luck

One of the best things for stains that I have ever used is plain old tonic water. I have used it for laundry stains and for carpets. It even got up red wine. Pour some directly on the stain but don't saturate the carpet. Let it "work" a couple minutes and then blot up (don't rub it) with a clean dry white towel. Repeat till stain is gone. Good luck!

depends on what spilled.
for wine, cokes, etc. club soda gets them out if they are fresh or semi fresh, blot don't rub
for dirt from a plant, let it dry completely and vaccum it up then use tide liquid mixed in a sprayer with water and then blot don't rub, then use just water and blot it up, white towels!
for stuff like ice tea or coffee, check and see if your carpet can take bleach in an inconspicuous spot, like inside a closet, clorox clean up, let sit for a couple of minutes then sprayed with water and blotted works, if no bleach on your carpet, then windex can work, but can also set the stain, so do a small test area first.
Oxyclean does work on lots of stains, but just like tide or soaps, you have to use a sprayer with water to rinse it out, rinse, blot, rinse, blot. Or if you are lucky enough to have a hand held green machine, or shop vac, you can spray and then suck the water and stain out. That works the best and they are semi inexpensive, figure about 30 bucks for a small shop vac. (homedepot)
I have always thought, well, it's stained already so what the heck, might as well try. Good luck

Oxyclean, or any other oxygen bleach works very well to get out stains. Mix with hot water with a high concentration of the oxyclean to water and dab into stain. Repeat as necessary. I've been impressed with this product in doing this.

There isn't really one answer for that question. Stain removal techniques really depend upon what the stain is.
For most liquid stains - start with trying to blot up as much of the liquid as possible

for water-based stains try 1 tsp. mild dishwashing detergent to 1 qt. water. not automatic dish detergent as these are too strong and may contain bleach. for oil-based use a cleaning solvent available at hardware stores and rinse thoroughly. for urine, feces or vomit try 1 tbsp. white vinegar to 1 qt. water. always blot spots never rub. if some stains remain try hydrogen peroxide and let air dry. use peroxide only on man-made carpet such as nylon, berber, olefin, polyester, etc. DO NOT use on wool, cotton, jute, or any other natural fiber.
