I'm due any day now and I'm just wondering how long labor lasted for most people out there... Thanks!

Well, I was 2 days overdue so I was admitted into the hospital. I got there that afternoon around 4:00, I hadn't had any signs of labor at all. The doctor gave me cervidil around 8:00 that night. I started having contractions around 11:00 and had my little girl by 7:30 the following morning. So I guess I was in labor for about 8-9 hours which isn't that bad for my first one. I only pushed for about 45 minutes. Hopefully if and when I have another it will go the same, I couldn't imagine being in labor any longer than that!
Good luck and congrats!

Son #1 I was 2 weeks early according to the due date. My water broke at 1:30 in the morning. I woke up my husband up and he asked if he had time to take a shower? I said Oh sure Why not? I had not started the contractions yet. He could not find his wallet or car keys. It was a typical sit com event. We got to the hospital around 3am. I was admitted and started havin contractions around 4 am. I did not give birth until 1:30 in the afternoon. So I guess you could say 12 hours. They would not let me eat anything and I remember being very hungry. Every year on his birthday I won't let him eat until after noon. ( just kidding, but i do remind him of how hungry I was and I use guilt as much as possible while he is having breafast LOL)

i have 2 other children and they all went pretty much by the book

I was in prodromal labor for a week before both of my daughters' births. It really sucked. I had constant contractions that were pretty light, but every 5 minutes. They didn't dilated me more than 2-3cm. When the hard labor struck there was no warming up to it. I woke up in HARD labor. My hard labor lasted 11 hours for my 1st baby, 4 hours for my second.

I was told I was lucky with all 3 deliveries.
Here is how it went for me:
#1 had an epidural 8hr labor and delivery
#2 had an epidural 6 hr labor and delivery
#3 natural birth 21/2 -3hr labor and delivery

I hope that yours will be just as short.
They say your first labor and delivery is always the longest one and the ones after the first is always shorter.

My second pregnancy doesn't count--it was an emergency c-section, lol.

My first was very short...only 5 hours laboring and 30 minute pushing. :) Don't believe the horror stories you hear about first labors lasting 19 hours and all that. Of course it's true for some people, but not for all (like me!). :) Good luck to you and your little one.

Contractions started at 11am at home

Admitted into the hospital at 1:30pm

Broke my water at 4:30pm

REAL HARD labor started at around 4:31pm *smile*

I TRIED to go without an epidural until 7:30pm...so that was about 3 hours of hardcore labor....

Epidural at around 7:30pm....WOW....made a huge difference! (I recommend it!!)

Took a nice nap to wake up to be 10cm dilated...at 11:10pm...pushed for roughly 30 minutes and out came our son at 11:42pm!!!

Total hours of labor....I could say twelve....and this was my first baby....pretty amazing for a first with the 30 minutes of pushing....we also had a midwife....highly recommend that too if that is an option!!

Good luck!!

My labor with my son lasted from midnight when I had my first real contraction to 6:47 pm when he was born so almost 19 hours.

My labor was 2 hours and 15 minutes alltogether. I was at the hospital for about 90 minutes before my daughter was born.

I recently had my first baby. I started having contractions when I woke up in the morning, 2 days after my due date, but they weren't that painful. They got stronger throughout the day. I went into hospital at 4 to 5am the next day and my daughter was born at 6.45am.
