My daugher will be 7 months this week and she has been on solids for since she was 4 months old. All of the unwanted advice givers are telling me that she is now in need of protein. Is she too young to be eating meat(the pureed kind of course)? Or should I wait? Thanks in advance

she is at a perfect age to have the stage 2 baby foods and there are lots of different meat stage 2's.

It is fine to start her on meats, but only if you want to. If she is active, she may benefit from the more complex calories and the protein. As with the other foods she has already mastered, start 1 at a time. Beech Nut actuall has 1st foods in meat. They are turkey and chicken which are just ground meat, and water for preperation, no added starches. Once she is ok with these, both Beech Nut and Gerber have a full line of 2nd food with meat. They include beef and veal as well. There are also a ton of combo foods with fruits, veggies, and meats all in 1. I recomend against those. They add a lot of unnecessary fats and such. You can always custom mix your own with single flavors. Babies actuall know their own bodies very well. If she is not ready, she will not eat it. Just try a bit at a time, and soon she will be eating it all.

You could do some stage 2 foods if you want, but I personally did not give my daughters any meat until 9 months. Babies get plenty of protein from their formula and instead of meat you could try a little scrambled egg, which has a lot better proteins then conventional meats. Also think about the processing that occurs to get meat into like stage 2 foods or 3 foods, you have no idea where the meat comes from or what part of the animal the meat comes from. I would personally go for an egg that is "natural". I am not against meat, I just like to know where my meat comes from.

She should start with rice cereal, then fruits and veggies and meat is introduced last. I didn't start my kids on solids until they were 6 months old, so they were probably 10 to 12 months before they started on meats. Your baby is getting plenty of protein from formula or breast milk. Ignore the unwanted advice givers. What makes them think they are such experts anyway?

I think meat should wait a couple more months. My son is 8 months and I'm waiting another month or so. You have to be your own judge. Does she have teeth? I'm skipping the baby food meat, I think that is gross... going straight to table meat (without seasonings.)

Also, their are grown adults who don't eat meat... and they're fine. Look for other sources of protein if you're worried. BUT if your baby is being breastfed (best) or even on formula, she is getting all the nutrients she needs. Don't worry!

7 months is fine for beef and chicken, if *you* want to introduce them. If you want to wait, you can...don't let "them" make you feel pressured. I put off meat until my daughter literally grabbed it from me, chewed it and swallowed it. Mostly because meat-poo was something I wanted to put off! LOL

"They" are probably concerned because at 6 months iron becomes a concern. If you are concerned about your baby's iron intake, there are plenty of other things you can give her like spinach, lentils and beans, fortified cereal, and at 9 months, tofu and edamame (soy beans) etc. And anything you cook in cast iron leeches some iron from the pan into the food.

Good luck and follow your instincts!

Any baby food jars with meat in them are fine. I would try her out on the stage 2 baby food, beech nut has some great ones, apples and chicken, chicken noodle etc. And so does gerber. She may make a face at first, but she will become accustomed to eating the meats. My daughter loves them!

7 months was fine with my son, but what you feel comfortable with is the best thing for your child. I wouldn't start with beef or pork (or lamb or veal) but when you are ready add a little turkey or chicken puree into her vegetables to see how she feels about it.

I don't see why not, gerber makes meat products for babies. I doubt they would if meat was bad for them.
