Ia republic representatives (presumably of the people) rule. In a democracy everyone has equal say and essentially a vote. The best example of an absolute democracy is a town hall meeting.

A republic uses elected representatives in the framework of a constitution to make the day to day decisions of government. A democracy would require a mass vote to make every decision , big and small. This would mean everyone voting on things like painting the courthouse, do we need a stop sign or a redlight? It would be inefficient to say the least

Republic is how the country is run now. Officials are elected, then do as they please.
Under Democracy, the officials have to do the will of the people- like deporting twelve to twenty million criminals. Why? Because over 80% of Americans say so.
