I am 5 months pregnant, and both my husband and my mom seem to think that I shouldn't mow the yard. Is it bad for a pregnant woman to mow the yard?

If you're careful and aren't a high risk pregnancy, you should be fine. They may be worried that you'll over exert yourself or maybe (if you're using a push mower), you could trip and fall. Remember to take it easy.

If your mowing the yard it's probably because your body is in good shape to do so while you are pregnant. Make sure it's a lawn mower that you push though, and when you feel yourself getting tired, then stop and relax. I have had two pregnancies and keeping active to a certain degree is healthy for you and the baby. Your body knows what it can't and cannot handle, jut don't strain yourself. Pregnancy is a beautiful time in your life but it shouldn't stop you from doing normal activities~just remember, listen your body and don't strain yourself and if you still have questions, ask your doctor..the best of luck!

If you were mowing the yard before you were pregnant, you should be fine. Just be sure not to be in the heat too much and be sure you drink plenty of water so you don't get dehydrated. As long as you feel comfortable doing it, there is no problem. If you start to feel yourself pushing too hard just stop! Pay close attention to your body and don't be stubborn just because family tells you not to do it!!

Anne P, where do you live? Are you busy tonight? My lawn is getting shaggy and I am still trying to convince my wife that mowing is the bee's knees.

On topic, as others have said, if you have been doing it up to this point and your doctor says it is okay, there is no reason to stop. If it is going to be a source of friction in your family though, relinguish the mower to your hubby and take a walk for exercise instead. I can't see fighting over who "gets" to mow.

I'm 39 weeks pregnant, and mowed the yard Yesterday, with a Push Mower! As long as you feel up to it, why not?! It's great exercise, and the fresh air does you good! You go girl!

That depends... do you have a self propelled lawn mower or a manual. Are you mowing up hill or is it flat? Do you live on 12 acres...

You're pretty much only risking injury by doing heavy lifting. But if you weren't mowing a lot before you got prego you probably shouldn't

I mowed the lawn (push mower) through all 4 of my pregnancies and had no problems. With my last one i was mowing the lawn while two weeks overdue....I was hoping it would start labor...lol.

Really this not the place to ask. Talk to your doctor. Each person if different and needs the advice of a professional. I've know women who were fine working right up to the end and others who had to be put on bed rest in order prevent miscarriage.
Talk to your doctor.

If you always have then no, its alright. dont get over heated, drink drink drink, and take your time.

If you get too tuckered out, then stop.

you're pregnant, not diseased or dying. So long as you dont do new things to your body, or up the intensity of what you've always done then youre alright.

Your body will tell you when it needs to stop, be sure to listen to it. You are pregnant, and it is a lot on your body.

DRINK WATER!

I don't see why you shouldn't mow the grass. If you're going to handle soil and stuff though you should wear gloves as it can carry toxoplasmosis which can be harmful to unborn babies. Just make sure you wash your hands afterwards!
