Isn't it URBAN MYTH that women have the ADVANTAGE in Divorce court?

I know too many women who are paying alimony, lost their kids more than half the time and/or are getting NO child or Spousal support from exhusbands.

Tell you what. Get divorced with kids and then make that comment.

If you know women who lost thier kids, then they either were losers from the beginning or had no interest in keeping the kids.

Courts in this country favor the mother. Especially if the man makes good money.

How do I know? I got divorced with kids once.....

Statistically speaking women win out in divorce proceedings, but these days more and more women are losing because 1) they're responsible for the divorce (cheating, etc.) and 2) some women make more than their husbands or the husbands were the stay at home parent while the women pursued their careers. Thus, the men took a hit financially and so are given alimony in a divorce. It's still a pretty rare occurrence, but it's becoming more common.

Where women will most likely always have an advantage is in custody hearings - our society just has a really hard time separating children from their mothers unless the mom did something really awful.

Not sure were you know these women from. But it is my understanding that is very difficult for children to be taken from the mother unless she has been proven unfit. Yes some women may have to pay alimony and get no spousal support from ex husbands if they indeed make more money then the ex husband. Some women may not be getting support because the loser ex just doesn't want to pay her even if there is a court order to pay.

Bottom line it all depends on what kind of a lawyer you have more money for a lawyer doesn't mean they are good. Ask to see what and how many cases have been won, on what grounds also, and then there's the judge, he or she can say yes or no to everything being said. It's been two years for me being in divorce court, I hope next month we will have everything wrapped up if not the ex will start paying my lawyer fees, I was married for 30 yrs.

You must be friends with women who either had crappy lawyers or werent' very intelligent when representing themselves. Women DO have the advantage most of the time. In fact, I think a woman would have to come into the court room actually snorting cocaine to NOT get custody of her children. The court almost ALWAYS favors the woman in custody issues.

Women get the custody of the kids but a divorce with throw them back at 75% into poorverty.

Maybe it depends on where you life.

The courts usually do favor leaving the kids with the mother, depends how much the mother fights it too.

The mother has to be proven to be an "unfit mother" in order for the courts to take the children away from her.
