I'd have to agree with slopoke6968, Meat Is Murder by the Smiths fully convinced me to go vegetarian. However, it wasn't until maybe a year after I'd been vegetarian that I decided to go vegan. Basically, I just couldn't handle all the cruel ways animals were being treated, whether being farmed for their produce or their meat. I watched a video on peta called 'meet your meat', and that just convinced me.
Those poor animals are abused, subjected to torture and live a life of misery. I didn't really want to put that all in my body.
And it's definately not as difficult as everyone thinks! I've lost weight, i'm fitter, healthier, it's great!

I'm a vegetarian because I've never liked meat. I suppose a large part of it is that I don't like eating animals, but I don't miss meat like some vegetarians do.

I don't eat much meat. I am a minor and my mother was on the atkins diet about the time I tried to go veggie. That was just asking for constant starvation. She thinks meat is the base of the food pyramid. So as a method of survival, I eat meat there. But when I am at my fathers house, we rarely eat meat. Our views on diet align much more. Once I have my own $ to buy food with, you can be sure I am going to buy local grown deliciousness.
Why would I prefer to eat very little meat?
Because meat is crap on the environment.
There are 3x as many cows as people on earth.
According to the EPA, U.S. factory farms pollute waterways more than all other industrial sources combined.
"You'd save more water by not eating a single pound of California beef than you would by not showering for an entire year." -John Robbins, The Food Revolution.
1 pound of wheat takes 60 pounds of water to grow.
1 pound of beef takes 2,500-6,000 pounds of water.
More than a third of all raw materials and fossil fuels consumed in the U.S. are used in animal production.
1 burger patty uses enough fuel to drive 20 miles. It also causes the loss of 5x its weight in topsoil.
Each vegetarian saves an acre of trees per year(deforestation to create grazing land).
For the feed cost of one 8-oz steak, 45-50 people could be eating one cup of cooked cereal grains.
Summary: Meat destroys good farmland, sucks up resources, and pollutes like hell. And I didn't even touch on the animal cruelty concerns.
Check out THE MEATRIX (link below), a fun collection of cartoons about the meat you eat, as well as tips on how to eat sustainably(it doesn't mean you need to give up meat).

I eat meat because I hate vegetables! It's sad I know, but I only like a few vegetables which limits my choices.

I cant cite any radical groups for either side of this issue. I just like eating meat and killing it myself. Noone is going to change my mind either way.
