My ac hasnt been working as good as it used to because the ac compressor is getting weak and all the money i am wasting to get it checked out almost every two months i might as well buy a brand new compressor and have someone install it for me. I was just wondering what would be a reasonable price at a reputable shop so i wont get ripped off.

This is going to be a shot in the dark since you never stated what kind of vehicle you have. but with the name like Chevy 4.3 I would assume that it probably is a Chevy s10 pickup or blazer. As such i will attempt to give you an answer. The compressors that gm has been using for the last couple of years have had a bad problem of leaking at the center seal. this can generally be noted by a dark oil stain in the middle of the compressor and may be the reason you are going back to have it recharged. The rebuilt compressors i have been installing on these vehicles have been doing quite well. When you professional takes a look at it have them check the orifice tube also to see if the system needs to be flushed. Good luck.

Any where from three to five hundred dollars.
Are you sure it is your compressor, or do you just have a Freon leak somewhere.
When you change your compressor you will also have to change your condenser, and have the whole system purged (cleaned) i.e. lines, condenser coil, and evaporator coil.

Another problem you might run into if it is an older car is Freon type. If your car uses Freon R-12 (older car) then it is going to have to be converted over to Freon R-134.
