Come on man! You`re the one behind the counter, was`nt being psychic a prerequisite when you got hired?
My grind is while doing an install(doors or windows), some old fart will always come from next door and ask that oh so obvious question: " Ya puttin` in new doors?"
Where`s Bill Engaval when you need him????

Hey man, I feel your pain. I have been working on pools for over 20 years. I have yet to meet a customer that honestly thought you didn't have to do anything to a pool but swim in it. At least 99% of all pool problems I have seen have their root in improper water balance. Just add chlorine and everything is fine. LOL!

Thats the kind of attitude that puts retailers out of business. When you work in a store your whole reason for being there is to answer questions for people about the product. and to sell them what YOU KNOW they need based on that information.
Your BOSS's customers aren't under any obligation to come to you with all the facts in hand. They probably just stopped in on their way from somewhere else to save a trip
You may have to send them back home empty handed but you tell them politely which information you need from them so that you can SERVE THEM BETTER.
I suppose it never occurs to you to let them borrow your telephone so they can save a trip.
If thats too much too ask then you seriously need to rethink your career plans because YOU are not a PEOPLE PERSON

I would say at a guess that their IQ is just a smidgen above that of a condescending sales person!
Remember, that your livelihood depends on your customers returning.
No matter how frustrating customers can be, they are there to spend money in your store!
Treat them with respect not scorn.

You can find much of the same right here in Answers. Everyone assumes you only work on their equipment so you already know everything about it. Answering Plumbing questions is the same thing. "My toilet doesn't work" No idea of what it is or isn't doing. I just go with the flow and do the best I can.

Customers are fun aren't they? How about a customer calling requesting delivery, but doesn't have the name of the person they want the item delivered too, nor the address? Talk about coconuts.

I had a lady who didn't want me to set up a submersible pump to drain her pool. She insisted I drain her pool by pulling out the "cork" in the main drain. We all need patience and understanding.

You would be surprised of how many people don't know much of things that you would think would have an importance, and rely on other people to break it down for them or expect them to know---Get to reading the handbooks that's what I always say.
