First of all, my mum had two kids, has never weighed more than 8 and a half stone, even when pregnant (she was back in uk size 8 jeans 9 days after giving birth to me) and is 5 foot 4. She doesn't have a single stretch mark. So I don't think size has anything to do with it in a lot of cases, or whether your mum got stretchmarks. I am 38 weeks and got my first stretch mark 6 weeks ago, I was gutted cos I thought I'd get away with not getting any, especially since I've only gained 'baby weight', I've not put a pound on anywhere other than my boobs and tummy. You can't even tell I'm pregnant from the back.

I think it is different for every person. I didn't get my stretch marks until about 7 months pregnant. My friend didn't get any stretch marks at all. That cocoa butter from Palmer's didn't work for me, the best thing to use is vitamin E oil during and after pregnancy. This is helping my stretch marks fade.

I don't like the look of stretch marks but i have them and I also have a beautiful baby and every stretch marks is worth it. As long as I have my baby I am happy!

I never got one stretch mark from my first baby. Now I am 35 weeks pregnant with my second and I recently developed a couple around my sides a few weeks ago. But this differs for everyone. I've started using Palmers Tummy Butter (cocoa butter formula just for stretch marks) because I am dead set on having as few as possible! So we'll see if that does me any good. I've also heard that using Mederma for scars right after getting the stretch marks will help the appearance of them. I'll let you know how it works!

Stretch marks are caused by your skin being stretched past its normal elasticity - caused by rapid growth. My breasts were the first to get stretch marks and I have some above my pelvic area. Use lots of lotion and try to stay moisturized...this will help.

i got a couple in the 2nd trimester but i got loads in the 3rd when i grew quickly.
I have been told Bio Oil is meant to be excelent to help stop stretch marks and repair skin that has stretch marks but i dont know if u can use it when you are pregnant.

Combat stretch marks before they happen, moisterise your skin all the time. If you can not afford something like bio-oil, use a coco butter based cream, and do it more than once a day. Do it around your hips, thighs, stomach, breasts, shoulders and arms. It will keep your skin freer to stretch, but not damage it.

I didn't get any stretch marks until around 7.5 months and my midwife said they were the worst she had seen! I recommend 'Bio Oil'. It's about £11 but it's fantastic as a preventer and helps them fade afterwards too!

My stretch marks began at around 20 weeks..
HUGE ADVICE: Keep them moisturized with Vitamin E or another lotion...that will help with the itchiness and prevent tearing..

Good luck!
