Mixing formula & rice cereal is fine. If this will be the 1st time you're attempting this with your daughter, gradually introduce the mixture to her. One part formula to one part rice cereal. Be sure that the mixture isn't too thick, causing your daughter to struggle while trying to suck from the nipple. Make it a bit "watery" at first, so your daughter gets used to the change, then gradually add rice cereal to a slightly thicker consistancy with each additional feeding.
If you're feeding her from a bowl, same procedure as listed above. Remember, introduce the change gradually & your baby will do fine.

Yes, but you need to feed it with a SPOON! They don't recommend putting it in the bottle due to choking hazzard. I jsut mixed the formula as called on the directions and then added it to the cereal. The amount of cereal mixed with the formula will vary with each child. I have had 3. One liked hers really thick from the get go. One wouldn't eat the rice, just the oatmeal. One only wanted hers thin. You can also give the oatmeal now and it has a bit more taste. Just be sure to wait 3 days before giving something else that is new. Good Luck!

Doctors say not to mix rice cereal with formula in a bottle because the baby can choke and also you want your baby to learn to eat well from a spoon. Most cereals say in the directions that you can mix the rice with formula in the bowl.

Try that and see if that works. Good Luck!

You can buy the rice cereal that is meant to be mixed with breast milk or formula. At 4 months of age you should be able to feed cereal from a bowl with spoon or medicine dispencer. The professionals will caution you against putting cereal in the bottle and feeding baby, as they wouldn't want to be held responsible if baby was to get too much and choke. Good luck with baby gaining weight. :)

is it u or the doc htat wants the baby to gain weight , just because a baby is skinny dosnt mean its not health , and just because a baby is chubby dosnt mean its healthy , but yes u can mix the rice cereal with formula as well as with breast milk even juice , formula or breast milk is better though , , i wouldnt mix to much u can over feed your daughte r , i would only mak e enough for a single feeding at a tim e, they have baby feeders that u can get they have a nipple and all that but the skinnier than most bottles and as the baby sucks up the food from the bottle a plastic peace moves up to keep extra air etc out , , try feeding the baby from a spoon , so she can get use to it only place rice cereal in some of hte bottles , when u intruduc e to the spoon she may reject , or even spit back out because shes not use to it but u will be surprised . i would only mix a couple spoonfulls of rice cerearl to like 8 oz of furmula , to start out with , then watc h how she reacts ie is she contipated , does she gag on it etc , as time goes by increase the cereal amout and decrease the milk amount , but rember talk to your peditrician first about her weight , she may weigh enough , u dont want her to be over weight , and rember not all babies are the same , so if baby johny down the street weighs 9 pounds at 4 months but lil suzy next door weighs 14 lbs , dont worrie , remeber there birth weight when born , babies also loose weight after birth thats normal , some babies gain faste r than others , u need to look at your normal size and built befor e babies were born and dads as well , heridety also plays a role in the size of your kids height as well etc , some kid s burn the calories from formula off faster as well the main thing is tha t your baby is a healthy playfull smiling lil one not fat skinny etc

You can absolutely mix formula with rice cereal. That is the way most people give the rice to their babies. You can also make it with water if necessary. I would stay away from giving her cereal in a bottle. Try the bowl and spoon. And a half a bottle of formula is going to make an awful lot of cereal.

It is not suggested to mix cereal in a bottle, unless the child has acid reflux. At 4 months, although it's better to wait until 6 months, you can mix cereal with formula in a bowl and feed to by spoon. However the fat is in the milk, so that's where the weight gain will be from, not the cereal. In fact once solids are started the baby will stop gaining weight as fast as they did before, and at 6 months that is fine.

I use rice ceral in my nieces formal . I also have friends that have a daughter that has a very hard time putting on pounds , the used rice with her formula and stage 1 foods (ask your doctor first) with her and she has gained 3 pounds in around 1 mth or so . There should be no problem mixing rice with her formula.

Yes, you can, as long as your doctor agrees. Spoon feed it to her, cereal should not be in the bottle. Continue breast feeding as usual, cereal is in addition to breast milk.

I always made my babies cereal with breast milk or juice, hardly ever water. (but they did not get cereal until they were 6 months old)

I am not sure, however, why you want your baby to gain weight. Is the doctor concerned? Or just you? Chunky babies are not always healthy, and you may be setting her up for weight problems as an older child, teen or adult.

I have a daughter, who will be 3 in a month. She is just about 24 lbs and 34 inches tall. Perfect health, just small. She has always been in the bottom 5%, never had an infection until I stopped breast feeding.(at 17 months old)

This is how I give it to my son and I have been doing that since he was 4 months old and he will be a year old next month. He loves his cereal. That is what you should mix it with unless you are breast feeding then you would mix it with that. My son's doctor told me not to mix it in a bottle. You should mix it in a bowl and feed it to her with a spoon. Never through a bottle. You want them to start learning how to eat from a spoon.
