First, calculate the total volume of the 18 cylinders.

Volume of ONE cylinder = pi * radius*radius *height

Therefore, volume of ONE cylinder = 3.14 * 8*8*15 = 3014.4 cm cubed

Now, find the volume of 18 cylinders.

Volume of 18 cylinders = 18 * Volume of ONE cylinder
= 18*3014.4 = 54259.2 cm cubed

Next we find the total volume available for the 18 cylinders.

Therefore, Volume of box = 48 * 48 * 30 = 69120 cm cubed

The difference of these two volumes gives the volume of the packing material required.

So, volume of packing material required = 69120 - 54259.2
= 14860.8 cm cubed

Volume of Packing= Volume of Box - Volume of Cylinders

Vp= (48*48*30) -( 18 * (Pi*8^2*15))

Vp= 69120 - (54259.20)

Vp= 14860.80 cm^3

i believe the answer is 14833.279

pi(8)^2(15) <---volume of cylinder= 3015.929cm^3
multiply that by 18 = 54286.72105cm^3
mulitiply 48 and 48 and 30= 69120cm^3
subtract 69120 -54286.72105 = 14833.279cm^3

im not positive that its right though

Volume of cylinder = pi * r * r * h = 3015.92 cm^3
Volume of box = l * w * h = 69120 cm^3

18 cylinders = 54286.72 cm^3

Packing required = 69120 - 54286.72 = 14833.28 cm^3

(48*48*30)-(8^2*pi*15*18)

volume of the box is 48*48*30=69120cm^3
volume of one cylinder is r^2*pi*h=8^2*pi*h
