No. Do you work 40 hrs a week? Well so do postmen. They work 5 days a wk including Saturdays with a day off during the week and then Sunday. And it won't save very much money since you have to look at the big picture. If mailmen stopped delivering the mail on Saturday (btw...most routes unless rural are walking routes) then the mail needs to stop being delivered as well to the actual stations on Saturday so therefore everyone can get equal time off. Hmmm..think about how that'll work. On Monday when the postal clerks and people who work in the back come in they're going to have to work even longer hours or the USPS is going to have to hire more people to do the work that got backed up because they were no deliveries on Saturday to them or to the people. So therefore overtime plus additional costs and additional labor is going to be required.
How is that saving money? Yes mailmen work the streets Monday through Saturday but internally the USPS works 7 days a wk 24 hrs a day and taking an additional day off would just make the workload ridiculous insane and that important piece of mail that normally takes a couple of days to receive that you may be waiting for could take a month or even longer.

You obviously are not old enough to remember when they delivered the mail twice a day..
Lets take your suggestion a little further. Lets only have delivery on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If something can wait three days from Friday to Monday, like you are suggesting, then it can wait two days for althernate day delivery during the week. Between your suggestion and mine, we can save FOUR days wear and tear on the trucks! Of course, we would need trucks twice the size we have now because they would be delivering less than half as often.
For that matter, why not one day a week delivery? If we are going to call it snail mail, why not make it such? The postmen can delivery 20% of the mail every day, Monday thru Friday, and be done by noon and take the rest of the day off.
Now that the sarcasm is done, it is called the US Postal SERVICE. The idea is to provide a SERVICE to the customers. Since most people and businesses WANT mail on Saturday, that is what they get.

No only because some things do need to be done on Saturday, bills, receiving of important mail or packages. Lives are so busy now that extra day is needed.
And how in can anyone complain about putting a stamp on an envelope, 41 cents, gets it delivered a mile away or even 1,000s of miles away. Try walking that distance, how much would it cost you in gas to deliver it yourself? Please it's a small amount for service most certainly wouldn't want to do on their own.

How long have they had Sat. deliveries? Actually I go to where my Post office is and pick up my mail! They will offer delivery 24/7 soon, because when they finally settle the rate structure for electronic mail hand written or printed things will soon be obsolete!

I don't think they should eliminate Saturday deliveries. Waiting from Friday to Monday for an important piece of mail is a long time. Bills come in and need to be paid promptly. I think they should keep it the way it is.

Maybe they should stop delivery completely. That would really save money.
I think that what we need is to allow competition. Allow other companies to deliver mail into the mailbox and do first class delivery. A little competition is a great way to lower prices. A monopoly is a great way to make sure that prices remain bloated.

I do not think it matters. Why Saturday? Why not any day for that matter.
If they want to cut down on deliveries, they should refuse to deliver junk mail and fliers from grocery stores. Talk about a monumental waste of time.
As for competition, there already are several competitors when it comes to sending items - UPS, FedEx, etc.
