More than 800 of them have lost an arm, a leg, fingers or toes. More than 100 are blind. Dozens need tubes and machines to keep them alive. Hundreds are disfigured by burns, and thousands have brain injuries and mangled minds.
More of them are coming home, with injuries of a scope and magnitude the government did not predict and is now struggling to treat.
Back home, concerns grow about care. The Walter Reed hospital scandal and problems with some VA nursing homes.

These are America's war wounded, a toll that has received less attention than the 3,500 troops killed in Iraq. Depending on how you count them, they number between 35,000 and 53,000.

Tough question. We're creating more veterans every day, yet the budget for the Veteran's Administration is reduced in the President's budget proposal. Seems contradictory to me - or it's that he considers our Soldiers expendable. He certainly gives them great lip service - has them pose with them as "backdrop" (I was one of them when he was making his pitch for Social Security reform). But when it comes right down to it, putting your money where your mouth is - the President falters - if he really cared for them, the VA would recieve money to EXPAND their programs, not force them to choose between one level of treatment or another.

No, the government doesn't support anything or anyone except money. The chimp's administration has yet to do one good thing for the domestic agenda in America - except of course the immigration and amnesty bill that is before congress now and is being threatened to pass. It is a bad bill and all it does is stop the border patrol and ICE from performing the jobs they were put there to handle. America can no longer accept this kind of government that is way out of control. The real problem here is that the American people think there is no recourse until the election in November 2008. How naive they are! In fact, most do not know what the US Constitution says nor do they know what the Bill of Rights are or how to go about getting bad leaders out of office. If we continue to be "stupid" about our laws and the land we so dearly love, we are in real trouble!

ok. so your clue meter is reading 0. In ~ August 2004 there have been sufficient 'uparmored' humvees for an order to bypass out that basically 'uparmored' humvees have been allowed outdoors the twine. And FYI - the clarification we are nonetheless utilising humvees is with the help of the fact they're the final motor vehicle for the activity. My brigade left maximum of our tracked, armored autos in the back of in Kuwait as quickly as we moved into Iraq in early 2004. This grow to be a decision made by utilising the commanders interior the sphere. Now - do you care to let us know why you think of you're qualified to tell the human beings who're easily serving in Iraq what equipment they choose?

IF they actually do support the troops they should not have cut combat pay, extended tours of duty, should give the soldiers the equipment they need and most important of all - - - the government should never have cut veterans' benefits - especially since the government is in the business of manufacturing disabled veterans.
Army psychologists have already warned of large numbers of psychological problems that will effect so many of the veterans of the Iraq war, compounded by the horrible injuries many receive or see.

Call up your local Veterans Hospital and listen to the message. Of course they support our troops. I love my VA. I'd rather got there than ANY general hospital. Everything is cleaner and they don't have a bunch of idiots pretending to be doctors like the other hospitals.

Please ignore that "zolby" crap. Go talk to the soldiers themselves like I have. That zolby crap is just more liberal news media BS.

I think the government does not support the troops because it does not give them the materials and the authorization to fight the war they way it needs to be fought to win.

According to what you wrote they do support the troops but are struggling. No part of war is easy.
I however do not believe parts of congress support anyone but themselves.
