We have 3 poppy plants in a small garden. I want to plant more using the seeds from the pods we have.

One of the easiest ways is to let the poppy reseed itself. However, a spent poppy is not very attractive so you can harvest the seed pods, let them dry, and then rebroadcast the seeds into your garden for next season.

We allow the poppy plants to go completely dry before harvesting the seed. The seeds will simply spill out of the seed pod when you turn it over. If you don't want them to grow in the same place, you need to be careful when you (re)move the dried out plants. If you do; you can simply allow the seeds to broadcast right there.

If you're like us; you'll want to regrow some; and save some seed for next spring to plant in areas that need a little something.

I've been cultivating poppies for about 10 years in my own yard ~ for best results, wait until the seed pod had dried out to harvest the seeds.
You can either break the seed pods directly into your garden for next year's crop OR clip the pod, and store it in a yogurt container until you are ready to plant them.
