Little bit of meths on a lint free absorbent cloth. Nothing wrong with brown paper mind you.

I use Auto Glym glass cleaner on both sides of the screen and it is brilliant. No smearing when using the wipers or anything.
I thought I could do better though and bought a PermaClear glass cleaning system off the TV shopping channels and it is awful, seriously rubbish. The demonstrations looked SO convincing but it shouldn't be allowed. I tried everything to get that stuff off my windscreen but nothing would touch it.
Thank goodness I sold the car shortly after that.
PermaClear is supposed to leave a film on the screen so that the water disperses away without the need, almost, for wipers. Don't believe it. It is a curse!

Just like a house-window, using a glass-cleaner like Windex or whatever...use soft cloths, wipe first across and then vertically. Good product: Rain-X, which coats the windscreen and cuts down on the smearing effect when you run the wipers...water just 'beads' up and runs off. I think Rain-X makes windscreen cleaner also, you might check on that too. If you live in a dusty-sandy area, be careful to brush off dust/sand before you start with the cleaner...gritty stuff can basically 'sand-blast' a windscreen over time, so you don't want to scratch the surface--dust FIRST, then clean.

Methalated spirit works well it gets rid of grease too. one little tip never wipe condensation or ice of the inside of your windscreen as this really does smear like hell and is hard to clean off even with a windscreen cleaning spray, always use a clean tissue or cloth if you need to wipe the inside of your windscreen for whatever reason.

The best product for cleaning any glass surface is Nilglass, apply with one cloth and polish with another. I guarantee a crystal clear streak free finish. Also for car windsceens get one of those products that treat the glass surface so that rain just runs off such that you hardly need the wipers on when it rains. Sorry, but I can't recall the product name, but I bought it from Halford's and it comes in a small day glo pink container. Each application lasts about six months.

A bowl of water with a small amount of washing up liquid and good old vinegar using newspapers does a great job

I use a white toothpaste to polish the windshield. I put it on a rag and use a circular motion. Then I wash it off with water. The toothpaste is fine enough to polish the glass without scratching it. good luck. It works good for cutting film and ground in dirt.

there is an actual car glass polish. use that and your glass will be clean for weeks without any more treatment.... it is the same style as car polish (circular motion). it works very well

place neat washing up liquid on dry kitchen roll and give a good hard rub, then remove with a wet cloth several times and finish with a slightly damp leather.
