I've been totally lost in trying to find the solution to this problem, please see if you can come up with anything. Thank you.

Steve buys $100 gift card from Clothesmax store A. He then goes to Clothesmax store B and spends $25 from his card. Then he goes to Clothesmax store C and spends $15 from his card. Finally, he goes to Clothesmax D and adds an additional $50 to his card. Please come up with a series of equations that can plug in any numbers to its variables to FIND OUT WHICH STORE OWES WHICH STORE THE AMOUNT OF MONEY. Thank you very much.

The numbers are just examples. What I need is equations in which I can plug in any numbers to and find out which store gets what money/owes money to other stores or card buyer. Thank you.

A = 100.
B = A - 25.
C = B - 15.
D = C + 50.

I'm not quite sure that this is the way gift cards work, but Clothesmax Corporate will need to give chunks of money to each store.
First, Steve bought the card at Store A, so Store A will owe Store B $25 and Store C $15.
Now the card has $60 ($100-A-B) left on it. Steve adds $50 at store D, so the card now has $110 ($100-A-B+D) on it.
Until Steve buys more stuff, that's all the owing we have (except maybe store A owes Steve $60 and Store D owes Steve $50).

Since, at the time he made purchases (B and C), he had only the original amount of money on the card (from A), I would think that store A owes B $25 and C $15. The remainder ($100-$15-$25 = $60) is still held by A.

Well it would be a screwy way to operate a business, but B owes A $25 and C owes A $15.
