Under Texas law, failure to have proof of financial responsibility - usually an insurance card to be carried with your driver's license - can result in the car being impounded until proof is presented and fees paid for storage. Texas has added a number of offenses where the car can be taken immediately, but this one has been on the books for some time. It is a legal requirement to have insurance so why should you get to keep the car without it - to drive it home?
