One of my best friends is turning 41 in a few days... I'd love to get him a REALLY great present, but am limited to the meager contents of my student teacher pocket book. I know I am getting him a train set (he always wanted one as a child)... and I also realise that is highly corny, but hey! so am I. I want to get him a more grown-up gift to go along with it... but due to the length of our friendship, I've exhausted most creative ideas.
Any suggestions?

food or wine.
you can spend little, but on one specialty item. that's a bit more mature maybe. wine? cheese? a box of really nice chocolates?

I love that you admit you are corny!! (kind of how I admit I am a flake sometimes..lol)
Gift cards and such are impersonal. Why don't you get him tickets to a game or a concert (both can be purchased for less than $100 depending on where you live) Maybe buy him a lap dance... IM KIDDING... umm it's the summer.. see if there are any "in the park events" the ones in NY are alot of fun.. again.. I don't know where you live.

Perhaps a book on (his favorite topic here). Chapters has a pretty wide selection of topics & authors from which to choose...

Why don't you get the train since he's been wanting one ever since and attach a little card with it? Or better, surprise him and install the train in his kitchen or anywhere he can see it? Hope this helped!
