You will have to disengage from society to accomplish. Genius requires being highly isolated to accomplish the degree of thinking necessary to improve one "IQ". Putting aside the issue of the IQ test being racist, to acquire the information, the type of processing, and skill development, you can pretty much rule out having significant relationships.

Child geniuses do better, as their is a family unit to keep them anchored to the more social side of being a genius.

Next would be to develop your area of skill and expertise. Genuises tend to find short cuts to the thought processes that others use. Becoming aware of pattern theory and pattern recognition is helpful if you don't already have the skill.

Next would be to abandon old beliefs. Some beliefs that we hold, are taught, or acquire are fundamentally a hindrance to advanced thinking. Identify yours, replace them, or eliminate them.

Be prepared for emotional turmoil. The type of genius will determine if you explore certain phenomenon. If you don't include these in your philosophy and work, you will likely suffer unpleasant during the course of being a genius.

For example, other people will become boring as they will not always be willing to discuss things in alignment with your goal of being a better genius.

Other people will becomes intolerant of you and your inability to experience more day to day activities. Your ambition is likely to add to your isolation. Even finding someone of similar intellectual ambition will require that the two of you spend time apart to accomplish such a goal.

Examine your motivation to be a genius. If the goal is fame or fortune, you may encounter difficulties. Too many geniuses have existed out of greed and then ruined their lives through applying their intellect to criminal behaviour. People eventually get caught -- even geniuses. (The genius never believes that this is possible.)

Many said that Real Genius is understanding before your time. And Leonardo da Vinci was in this category. But I say also that the real genius in our present "Information Technology Era are the businessmen, the job creator who not only risks their own capital, their own future, their credit and reputation in their enterprising but creates opportunities for others to make a livelihood. If you ever need a helping hand, you always know where to find it---right there at the end of your arm.

You can't. You have to be an ordinary genius before you can become a better genius.

Three ways to increase your intelligence:
1. Continually expand the scope, source, intensity of the information you receive.
2. Constantly revise your reality maps, and seek new metaphors about the future to understand what's happening now.
3. Develop external networks for increasing intelligence. In particular, spend all your time with people as smart or smarter than you.

Don't listen to the nay-sayers and jerks here. It's always noble to improve oneself.

For tips, I would suggest these:

1) Study the classical sense of virtue. Read through Plutarch's "Moralia." You have to have a sort of motivation. Without a teacher, a strong, emotional attachment to virtue is the next best motivator. You need something to struggle toward that isn't just meaningless self-fulfillment. Find something outside of yourself to struggle for.

2) Spend more time by yourself. You need friends, and you need to socialize for emotional balance, but you also need to spend a lot of time to yourself to read, study and think in quiet.

3) Nurture curiosity. Every possible subject can lend tools to exploring others.

4) Always seek intellectual input. You'll listen to a lot of idiots, you'll hear a lot of geniuses, and it's tough to discern between the two, usually because of emotional interferences. A Republican doesn't like being told certain things that contradict his or her views because so much that is personal, so much that is emotional, is simultaneously at stake. It's best to put pride aside in the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom. This is also why "Know thyself" is important. Your emotional hangups can prevent you from acquiring knowledge.

5) Develop discipline. Try working harder at your job. Try to get into a work-out regimen. Feel the burn! It'll toughen you up when you strive in other ways to better yourself.

Stop thinking that you are a genius... it's usually untrue and overused... ideas can be genius... rarely are people. Freeing
your mind from that little conceit can allow you more room to think.

Peace
