- and what american citizens can point too, right now, that is worth France Britain, Germany, Denmark, Italy and Ireland (and two dozen others) giving all their state run health services, and welfare programs over too the private sector?

I can remember when it was in the news about the Mars rovers sending back detailed information, & pictures of the surface of Mars. A friend of mine said 'they could have built a new hospital for the price of that probe.' They probably said the same thing when they landed the first Americans on the Moon. By my estimate NASA costs every American tax payer about $80 or $100 a year. That's why the U.K. dosn't do anything as impressive & pioneering, to inspire youngsters to become scientists, engineers, & innovators. I'm in favour of the NHS, (mainly because I'm poor), but it has led to a situation where the U.K. goverment can't create any big, exciting projects, & we have to settle for half arsed projects like the millenium dome.

Private health care is available in the U.K., but obviously, at a cost. If you choose private treatment, then you don't have to wait for treatment, & you get the best treatment you can afford, but you will still be paying for the Health Service through taxation.

If we handed all our state run health services, and welfare programs over too the private sector, a few people would be better off, & they would get better health care, most would experience little change, perhaps causing some improvements, & some hardships, & for a lot of people they would experience hardship, & their lives would be put in danger.
