Wine drinking is an ancient art known from biblical times. Sure some people think that it is cultured or even elitist but after all you can either hate the bottle or like it don't matter too much what vintage, price or where it was produced.
Some of it is honest and good and there is also lot of snobbish trash that goes with the business of wine.
I bet many a snob has been swishing a glass of expensive vintage around their mouth giving their elitist host compliments when really to them it is tasting like out of date mouthwash.
Because of some prices only wealthy can afford to have certain stock and it is the longing to look wealthy that certain people want to look like they belong in that club.
I enjoy wine - but only if it tastes nice. Don't matter what the labels say on it.

I enjoy wine, but by no means an an expert. I prefer a good quality scotch. No, I think that are wine snobs only think they are superior..truth is many sommelier's actually will giggle about a "self professed" expert who trys to show his or her skills while dining with friends or trying to impress.
We tried this just to see if it would work..took a mid-grade , low priced wine, placed it as the second most expensive wine on the list( on a list including 85 different bottles), bumped up the "rating" and overheard a few people telling their guests the virtues of the wine, and order it, the wine that was really the more expensive was only ordered by someone really in the know!
Of course at the end of the meal, when the cheque was given the pricing error was corrected..and the lucky three people who ordered the good stuff got a great deal!

Two of my brothers and my cousins study wine and wine-making. My cousins husband wants to buy a vinyard soon - but the rest of the family is kinda blind to it... my mother doesnt drink wine really and i only drink wine after a really hard day. I dont think wine drinks are superior over others - but that only in my family... There may be wine-drinkers who feel they are superior and I just dont know it.. My mother and sister-in-law doesnt understand how people can have a glass of wine at every meal - but it proven to be healthy for you... I think wine drinkers are just fine - as long as they dont blow all of their money on it!

I think it's all for show. People taking "wine appreciation" classes and being **told** which wines are good and which are not --phooie! A bunch of big fat fakers! It's all a matter of personal taste. You taste a few, just to experiment, and finally settle on some favorites. Beers have just as much variety to taste (in Europe, at least) as wine, but is regarded as a "working class" beverage (it's generally cheaper), so you don't hear much about "beer connosieurs".
And then some people can't stand the taste of either wine or beer. That's hardly makes them inferior, does it?

I think wine is a drink that is designed to be enjoyed by anyone whether as you say, superior or not. Conoseurs of wine present themselves as being all high and mighty (superior) but really, its just grape juice thats been fermented with some bugs.... whats so special about that??!!

Not at all!
I don't think anything about it. I drink wine once in awhile if I go someplace really nice for dinner, but I have no feelings of superiority when I drink it. I just like the taste.

There are some people who consider wine drinking to be more upper crust, especially as the cost of the vintage goes up. Personally, I don't consider it anything other than a symbol that a person has way more money than they need.

No. Who told you this nonsense? Don't believe the hype.
Timothy 5:23
Do not drink water any longer, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent cases of sickness.
Psalm 104: 15
And wine that makes the heart of mortal man rejoice, To make the face shine with oil, And bread that sustains the very heart of mortal man.

I'm sure there is an etiquette to drinking wine. But in most cases, people who claim to be connoisseurs are "pseudo-intellects". By that i mean they think they are wonderful and better than everyone else. But if people just drink it because they like it, there is nothing wrong with that. Personally im a 2006 gold medal winning Miller Lite fan myself.

Superiority? No. Hardly.
And, alot of the wine drinkers I knew couldn't tell you a merlot from a cab! All they cared about was if it went with their meal.
