Well, they can. They generally DONT but then any electronic part can fail. The last bad one I saw was because the antenna had been "bent" nearly off the unit.

In alot of cases where they "quit" working, its just the drivers. So if one has stopped try reloading the drivers for it before you give up on it.

Remove the current drivers and remove the card and reboot, then just reinstall from the beginning see if it comes back to life. If not get another card.

Sure they do. But PCMCIA cards are pretty stout, so it would take a bit to kill them. I know that the wireless cards are sensitive to having the correct driver with the correct operating system in order for them to work right.
