The fortunate few, go through life making all the right choices. At the other end of the scale, all the unlucky Alf's make a complete fkup of everything. It usually means that they are on the wrong track and they have no-one (seemingly) to guide them forward and even if they were offered sound advice, their depressed state wouldn't allow that ray of light to shine through so easily for fear of misplaced trust.

Guilty.

People become depressed for a variety of reasons. One of the big ones is negative thinking and internalizing the hell that is this life. A happy person can go on not giving a damn about human suffering and can even enjoy life, but someone who is depressed can't just switch to that healthy level of apathetic coma commonly known as joy. Why? Well maybe it's an imbalance or some sort of difference in chemical make up that makes this person more sensitive to feeling the world around him.

It's actually debated whether or not depression is a universal human condition. There are some cultures in the world that may not have depressed individuals. Perhaps Western society and all it's capitalist greed and intolerance is a main cause for depression. I also believe depression is somewhat contagious. It's caught through antidepressant marketing. Those Zoloft commercials are enough to make any idiot a depressive with generalized anxiety and social anxiety all wrapped into one!

Personally, I believe that the depression comes first and the chemical imbalance is actually a symptom of depression and the cause is the human condition combined with a flawed society.

Depression can be put into several categories but the 2 main types are reactionary and clinical.
Reactionary depression is what most people Will suffer from a some point in time. This could be caused by grief or stress of some kind.
Clinical depression occurs when the body, for whatever reason does not produce the necessary chemicals that make you feel OK.
Some people are born that way an it usually becomes initially apparent in early adulthood, though many will suffer from depression at this time because an imbalance of hormones and never experience it again.
Just because one suffers from clinical depression does not mean one is an unhappy person, often their personalities are very optomistic, they have great vision and a good sense of humour. It's just the luck of the draw.

For some people it is as a result of a chemical imbalance. A lack of seretonin. For others it could be a sudden life changing event, and for others an accumulation of events.

I have a positive outlook on life but has suffered from depression. It's not something that you have any control over, and for me I felt frustrated at not being able to feel content with what I had in my life. It is very hard to feel bothered or happy with anything and everything feels so hard and takes a great effort. Just getting out of bed can be an achievement.

I have found that having and recovering from depression has made me appreciate and love life more. I now spend my time doing the things that make me feel good and keep me healthy. I never wan to suffer like that again, but you have to be aware that it can sneak up on you again. It is not always a case of mind over matter.

Hope this has been of help to you.

It's not something you have any control over. We all feel a bit fed up from time to time. but real depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain, which only prescription drugs (and perhaps counselling) can solve. I'm sure that, like other sufferers, we'd all like to be on top of the world all the time, but a little rain must fall in all our lives, to enable us to appreciate the sunshine!

many factors contribute to a person experiencing depression. sometimes it's because of strong emotions like fear, anxiety, or stress that triggers depression. why do people go through it? well, the reason are different for every individual. maybe because it's unavoidable if you really get to that point of where you are truly incapable of balancing your thoughts and feelings from that of your surroundings. i am very blessed that i have not gone that far to having depression because i feel that life is short and fast-lived, and depressing over things hinders me from seeing things just s they are. god bless.

Depression is a disease just like any other!!
It can't be helped, if it could, no one would become depressed. You have to understand that it's not just a view on life, it's a hormone inbalance in your brain, and is a SERIOUS disease when untreated. If someone is depressed it doesn't mean they're 'emo and hate life' it's not their fault they're sick with depression.

Well, when you go through depression, your mindset becomes one where life becomes a drudge, a trudgery, a slow walk through molasses when it's raining and its 40 blocks before you get home.

Happiness is seeing a fuzzy bunny, depression is seeing a fuzzy bunny dead.
