thanku all so much for all ur answers an for opening up about how this disorder has or still does affect ur life in someway. All ur answers are appreciated greatly an I don't feel so alone on this. I did actually go to see a professional over somethin completely different in my life, then thru our sessions he diagnosed me with o.c.d. Some things have calmed down a bit but not completely, but for now I just live along side them instead of against them. I recognise myself in quite a few of the answers u have all give (apart from bein a werewolf...) thanx again everyone for takin the time to answer my question but i can't possibly choose a best answer cos everyone's story is as equally as important as the next, so I will have to leave this one as an open vote.

I organize all my books by subject then alphabetically, I keep a record of all my books including the ISBN, title, author(s), subject, publisher, date published, number of pages, etc.. All my clothes are folded into tiny sandwich bags (except for the ones that wrinkle, they're all on hangers and are wrapped plastic) and are organized by style and color. I repeat words and phrases while in a conversation. Also, I go through an elaborate "ritual" when I fail a test or whatever (I consider failure to be anything less than 100%) but it would take too long to describe it. Most of the things I do are a source of enjoyment and relaxation for me. Others, however, lead me to do without food, water, or sleep until I've finished whatever it was that popped into my head. I've never been to a shrink so I don't know whether I have O.C.D. and I doubt I do but I am a little obsessive-compulsive.

It's not a multiple thing, it's a disorder. It's psychological. If you feel that you have obsessive compulsive tendencies go see a doctor and they can diagnose you and go from there. You're likely to be put on medications depending on the severity of the disorder.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder means you constantly feel the need for things to be a certain way. For example, let's say that when you walk you ALWAYS have to count your steps and, if you don't, you feel uneasy and have to go back until you do it right. That's a trait of OCD.

OCD has 2 parts to it, the obsessive side and the compulsive side. My daughter has it after she witnessed a very violent attack on myself. At first she suffered from the obsessive side which presented itself as depression, suicidal thoughts etc, she was put on medication and had counselling. After she recovered the compulsive side came out, whicj presented itself with handwashing, closing doors a certain amount of times etc. There is no set way for these compulsive things to present themselves, some people wash rigorously, others check things like their bags constantly, others have a rigid set routine. the only way to combat OCD is cognitive therapy, the counsellor trains you to think in a different way and then how to put it into practice, in some cases you will be put on anti depressants such as fluoxetine, which is used widely in the control of OCD.

im ocd when it comes to cleaning
my house has to be spotless and i freak when there is someting out of place. i have a certain place for everything and i can tell if someone moves it, even the slightest little bit! i wish i could stop but i cant. my husband tells me all the time that i need to realx, but he just doesn't understand! we have kids and that makes it even harder because you know you cant avoid a mess when you have kids...... i go right in behind them cleaning up every little mess they make! sometimes i get really depressed when i just cant seem to get things clean enough and i will not go in any room of the house except my bedroom for like a week, and then i clean like crazy when i come out of my slump! i guess i could see this as a good thing too because my house is always clean, and that is always a plus!

Hi, i haven't got OCD, but have lived with it, my younger cousin got it after she lived in a dirty household and then left home and lived with me at age 12. We took her straight to a physciatrist, it is the best way to deal with it, there are all different forms of OCD, my cousins was washing her hands, counting steps she took, not walking on cracks, fear of dying! She is better now, aged 21! And yes it has taken alot of years to get past it but the biggest thing is breaking the habits! Talk to someone and find help if you are effected by OCD!

( I think it cleans it) I always clean my house before playing a video game (I feel like i cant relax if a spot is there...my homies have adjusted some just those two things are enuff. The shower thing I cant help, the cleaning thing is calming down cuz my roomies will see me clean and tell me to chill and relax.....I guess slowly but surely huh...

I've dealt with severe OCD for 6 years. I've been on several meds for it, but I just had to learn to cope with the 'rituals.'

At first I was put on a tiny dose of Risperidone, and after that other meds. I got weened off of the meds, and learned to cope.

It's hard, and can be annoying at times, but be strong and you can get through it.

I do compulsive things but they are not that hard to deal with. I wash my hands all the time. It drives me crazy because I do it so much that my knuckles are always cracked and bleeding. I also count my steps that I take, in my head. Nothing too hard to deal with though.

I think everyone has a bit of OCD in them, just it affects others a lot worse, for example, when I hoover I have to make sure theres not one bit of fluff left on the capet, but it doesnt affect my everyday life so i think that is just a small proportion
