Hydrology (from Greek: Yδωρ, hudōr, "water"; and λόγος, logos, "knowledge") is the study of the movement, distribution, and quality of water throughout the Earth, and thus addresses both the hydrologic cycle and water resources. A practitioner of hydrology is a hydrologist, working within the fields of either earth or environmental science, physical geography or civil and environmental engineering.

Hydrology is the study of the dynamics (i.e. interaction between water bodies and other components of the environment such as atmosphere, soil etc), the composition and the 'cycle' of water - i.e. precipitation (rainfall or condensation), transport (rivers etc), deposition (into lakes, seas etc), evaporation, cloud formation, freezing etc, precipitation. Hydrology also concerns itself with the water content of volcanic eruptions, which may bring what we call Juvenile Water (water that has lain deep in the earth throughout geological time) to the surface of the planet. I hope this helps.
