Firstly how is it my fault? the white spots appeared bought a day after i bought it!! And secondly i know what my fish have, just wanted to know if they was held liable?! And thirdly why would i quarantine my fish, the whole tank is infected as soon as the fish went in the water, so what would be the point????

White spot is a parasite living in the fish, they then breed and thats how it starts, it cant be cause by stress. FACT

Ive got 2 clown loach in my tank ,have you just the one because they need to be paired up,clown loach prefer to be in pairs than on there own.
clown loach get easily stressed, and i don't think you could have a claim against the pet shop,as i have bought clown loach and a few days later they have white spot,i asked the aquatic shop where i bought them from and they said the stress of moving them into my tank, and the other fish nipping them probably stressed them out and caused white spot.
i treated mine but you should get some advice as clown loach are treatment sensitive and the medication needs to be applied spot on if you over dosed you would kill them.
when i have bought fish and taken them back i have never had a refund they blame it on stress, just make sure you keep your lights out on the tank for 7 days while treating ,and remove your carbon filters from your pumps ,if you don't the medication wont work.
you need to do a 30 percent water change after 7 days and if they still have white spot treat again, and keep doing this until the white spot has gone.
'i use aquarium treatment 8 which is for white spot, and you have to dissolve it in a separate container before adding it to the tank.
something i would point out if any of your fish die,the likely hood is your pet shop will say you never dosed the fish and killed them,my friend had a similar problem and they blamed her.
we are only trying to help on here i have owned tropical and marine fish for years clown loach do get stressed and if you knew anything about fish you would know they should be kept in pairs don't ask questions then put our answers down!!!!!!

I can see why you are upset about your fish. The petstore is liable for the fish you purchased, but most likely won't do anything about your existing fish. There is no way to prove that the clown loach was the one responsible. Ick is just about always present in the water. It attacks when the immune system is low. No, it is not CAUSED by stress, but it is brought on by stress. Fish can come down with ick that have had no new additions if the water quality becomes poor or the temperature is way off. I know this for a fact because it has happened to me. Clown loaches stress easily and are schooling. If you only have the one that could be one reason. Did you drip acclimate? Even though your other fish are doing well in your aquarium, it could probably has a different water chemistry than the one at the store. You fish are used to it, but the loach is not, causing him to be stressed to the point of illness. And finally, it is always a good idea to isolate new fish before adding to your current population. In fact, at my store, we stress that in our return policy.
So, basically...no, I do not think the pet store is liable. You should return the infected fish and they will MAYBE give you some meds for free but that's all you should expect to get.

Be sure you're using a med that says it's safe for scaleless fish. A lot of those treatments will burn loaches.
As for them being liable, most likely not. Most will accept the fish they sold you back within a certain time frame-I've seen anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks, but for the other fish I doubt it. You should buy a 10 gallon basic set up, and start quarantining your fish purchases for at least a week or two-some do it for a month, to ensure they're not infected with anything. That's really the only "insurance" you have, but again not always 100%.

If your lfs is cool they might refund your money or replace the clown loach -because the Ich was likely present when you bought the fish- but they don't have to.
However, you are responsible for the rest of your fish. You learned it the hard way- quarantine your fish for at least 3 weeks before putting them into your main system.

Actually the way ick or ich spreads isn't because one fish is infected or whatever, if when you bought it, it didn't have spots then no it isnt the fish stores problem and they aren't going to pay. It was your responsibility to quarantine the fish before it spread. It is also caused by poor water conditions or crowded aquarium space. Both are neither the fish stores problems.

Here are some sites with more info, check them out

If you bought your fish at a petstore they usually give you at least 14 days of warranty for the tropical fish community
If your fish dies, you can bring it back for your money back or an exchange, but you need to bring the dead fish, as well as a watersample from your tank
Hope that helped
Good luck

I understand your problem and all my sympathy with you, but I think once you have purchased the fish and have brought it home, you cannot do something about it. In most countries the pet shop will not take any liability once the transaction has been concluded. They always have a valid reason to say "you should have checked the fish while taking it".

Could be spawning season or ick....
Isolate in another tank, if other fish start to get infected you may have to reset your anaerobic bacteria and algae ecosystem. Google peroxide treatment and be warned it will kill a percentage of the population... then treat with uninfected dirty tank water from another population...

Well, your fish has ick, and that is your fault, you should have waited to let your tank cycle.
