I used to have a little purple and silver bookmark with a little tassle on, but I lost it on the Central Line on the way into work one morning. Now I just use an old tube ticket.

I have usually used a ribbon or an index card. Recently, my honey gave me a beautiful etched brass bookmark that I now use all the time.
