In my opinion, if you simply washed and polished this car really well (including wheels), and spray on some tire shine, you'll look golden - especially in these sunny weather! Cheap and effective.
You'll soon realise how many people actually don't take the time to shine up their cars regularly.
For night time, the only recommendation I would make is to add some angel eyes. Get some good ones though, not the cheapy ones.
You can also look at adding some BMW options like PDC, Euro side mirror glass (with wide-angle section, without those annoying words). Change out those useless cupholders to a nice BMW console box with slide covers.
Add in an XM radio, or completely change out your radio with one that includes DVD/GPS.

For about 2k you can have vertical doors installed on it, great option for coupes.
For God knows how much you could have the interior re-upholstered in ostrich skin.
Go with some light tints, 50-60% should be about right if they are clear. Get some clear side markers, turn signals, I think you just missed the model change that would have included this. You can also look for some polished Aluminum rims; with a silver car, you could probably get away with chrome, but you don't want anything too guady or you're going to take the attention away from the main show. Red angel eyes would also be pretty sweet I must say. As for the grills, you won't really see them with a silver car, so what you should do is grab some black ones that will stand out against the paint for a cleaner look than the gunmetal gray.

Well this is kind of an age appropriate question. I'm not big on window tinting, but then again I'm in my late 30's so maybe that's just me.
My first answer is Rims and Tires, but those aren't cheap. It also comes down to "Who" is going to notice? Real car enthusiasts notice aggressive tires (say like Toyo's), but the average person won't know the difference. So is the "look" about what makes you happy? Or what people notice? Or maybe both?
Personally... I've been a guy that's all about the "sleeper" mode in a car. Let the world think it's just another M3, but when the stopy light turns green show 'em what's "secret" under the hood" or "maybe the incredible sound" coming outta the car. Maybe it's theh special seats, lights, GPS, gear shift whatever. Any of the things that make it more special to you on the inside even though it may look the same to anybody else on the outside.
Let's face it when you're driving, you don't see the outside! Only the inside! Just my opinion.

First off, congrats on owning an amazing vehicle!
There is a wide array of mods and easy upgrades for this car.
Some suggestions;
AC Schnitzer Body Kits. They are expensive, but tasteful, and oh so hot!
Also, check out Bavarian Autosport Magazine (or there website listed below), they have a ton of accessories for all BMW's, and its easy to see what stuff works with your E46.
Hope this was helpful.
If you are really serious about customizing, message me, my best friend is a BWM freak, and would be able to set you up with hundreds of rim/body kit concepts, and he'd be more than happy to do so. He knows a million times more about this stuff than I do.

Skip the Angel Eyes. You'll never see them. With other mods like CSL trunk, spoilers, grilles etc, you get to see how cool your car looks when you walk up to it to get in. Then it's over. With Angel Eyes, what will you do? Walk up to your car, get in, turn on the Angel Eyes, get out and go look at them and then get back in?? Silly. Angel Eyes are for other people to look at and think how cool your car looks. Problem is they'll never be able to tell you just how cool they look, because soon they will be looking at your real cool LED tail lights, that you'll also never see!

if you want to freshen up how your car is to you, the best, coolest, most fun way is to freshen up how you look at it. The best way? Take the car to an instructional trackday/weekend. For about 250 bucks, you can get an instructed trackday (BMWCCA and porsche club of america have em all over the place), and I promise youll never look the same way at your car again. Hell, itll be like owning a new, cooler, faster car. I guarentee you wont be bored with it anymore.

Put a wing on it and paint it cherry red if you want to stand out of the crowd. Then get big 19"-20" rims for it. Know if you want to really go big then add neon and a really load but not Nappy exhaust.

Whatever you do, go with a professional body kit (ac schnitzer hartge, or dinan) dont use cheap parts off of ebay, or the cheap stuff at your local autozone.
You have a nice car dont screw up what bmw designers took years to complete.
