I watched Giles Foden film last night and was intrigued but to my mind truth and fiction do not mix in films as it distorts the truth. Dr Nicholas Garrigan is a totally ficticious character based loosely on Bob Astles Idi Amin closest confidante (a war veteran of roughly the same age as Idi that got caught up in his regime. I feel it is so wrong that truth and fiction are portrayed in this way as it is just propaganda and I believe we all need to know the truth as it is - as hard as it is but the truth about events/people and life past.

I would welcome other peoples views please

There are so many films and books that are guilty of this, and it can be a problem when people believe every word they read or see. I am afraid, however, that the embellishment of truth, the creation of characters to embody the "type of person involved" in historical pieces for the sake of entertainment or to make it more understandable to a general audience is something that we will have to continue to endure.

I cannot enjoy a film that is not historically accurate. If the movie puts a differant spin on the actual events but depicts them correctly, I have no argument with that.

Well it is wrong I suppose, but basically you should never expect to get historical accuracy from a movie.
